Gary,
Based upon your experience with the F-16, who makes better jet engines, Pratt &
Whitney or GE? I'm assuming here that you have experience with both.
Best,
Bruce Smith

Nah, my dad worked at P&W back in the good old days. Worked on the JT11-D (J58)
program. Was talking with another aviation enthusiast the other day who had a
few disparaging things to say about P&W. So, knowing that Gary worked on the
F-16 program, I thought I'd ask his opinion. Just curious.

Bruce, if you are asking about reliability and the maintenance of them, I al
ways liked working with the P&W engines versus the GE and Rolls Royce engine
s. I have years of experience with all 3 manufactures starting with the J57
that first powered the F-100.

Well, since I worked the P&W, I'm partial to P&W. The guys on the other side
of the office working GE, liked GE.
Low altitudes, the P&W out performed the GE due to the larger inlet. GE had s
maller inlets and less spillage drag at altitude making it a bit faster.
I have 12 hours in an F-16 including 3 hrs in air-to-air combat. We did 9gs.
I flew 8 point rolls and terrain following through the Sierras in the Isabe
lla MOA at 400 AGL.
It was a great experience.
