The problem is not how many seats but rather how heavy and how fast. If
one flies under FAR Part 103 (the ultralight rule), then the max weight
for the vehicle is 253 pounds. It MUST have one seat. Cannot hold more
than 5 US gallons of fuel and cannot go faster than 55 knots (63 MPH).
If the aircraft you seek to avoid the Sport Pilot regulations cannot
meet the above mentioned criteria, it is an airplane and must be
registered, N-Numbered, and the operator must hold at least a Sport
Pilot rating.

Subject: Ultralight-List: Single place Part 103 weight shift trikes
Does anyone have a handle on whether the single place trikes are a hot
item right now? After the Jan 31, 2008 FAA deadline I hear many two
place trike pilots are shifting to single place in frustration over
complications with Sport Pilot, and ELSA airworthiness.
Any comments would be appreciated.

If you are looking for a true ultralight and if you think you have found one
I hope you do have a camera because they are about as mythological as a
unicorn or mermaid. matronics is a wonderful place but I am getting tired
of the other 2 sights I have ben visiting. I prefer ultralight flying over
light sport stuff. my first UL was a quicksilver and I still miss her. I
once herd of a ul pilot that would try to touch his wheels on a moving train
up in northern Texas he did it several times till his wheel got stuck and
it drug him along for 80 miles totaling his bird and landing him in the
hospital .some times I think my experiences with flying UL's would make me an
expert witness for the history of civil disobedience in America .lets keep this
thread going shall we? malcolm michigan kit foxer
