I am looking to buy a warbird.
I have a total of 200 hours, about 30 in a Pitts tailwheel.
What are the pros and cons about the following:
1. T-6
2. Sea Fury
3. T-28
I know the T-28 is a tricycle gear, so any grandma could land it. The others are
taildraggers.
Are these aircraft easily worked on? Can a reputable mechanic be found (I live
in So. Cal) to do repairs? Are there any issues I should know about re: these
aircraft?
Thanks

I'm not a warbird owner, but my understanding is that the Sea Fury is a
pretty speedy aircraft, and quite a bit different from the other
trainers you mentioned - remember it was a fighter. I have worked with
them in Reno, and know one person who owns (or used to own) a Sea Fury.
Things happen pretty fast in them, and I think it would be easy to get
behind the aircraft with only 200 hours of flight time. I don't have any
direct experience on maintenance costs, but I have always been partial
to the T-6's. There seems to be plenty of people who work on them, and
plenty of parts. The T-6's put on a good show at Reno since they are so
similar in performance. Good luck in your quest!
Todd

Todd,
I pray that you were drinking when you wrote this. Are you nuts? Here you are,
giving advice to someone with 200 hours about flying ANY Warbird. You should be
ashamed of yourself for even condoning this. We obviously have a mis-guided
millionaire here and you are going to be a part of convincing him that he is the
exception and can fly a warbird with 200 hours.
I think you are either ignorant or a complete asshole. Lets say he crashes his
new T-6 into a park, killing innocent civilians; it would be another blow to GA,
especially sport GA. YOU would be directly responsible in my book!Way to help
kill GA fo all of us.
Not Warm Regards,

Not So Jack,
Check the yak list for an update. You are not a suspect. Please continue to
to talk to us. We have a problem with a nut
and will work it out. Again I am sure you don't know anything about this
problem , we will work it out very soon.
