I ended up having to get it replaced, and the Sony service center said the reason it happened was that too many amps hooked up to the remote output of the eq. Anymore than 2 components require an external relay to be hooked up inline instead of all of them branching off of the one output. Sounds odd that that would cause the problem with the output, but the exact same thing happened to mine. The front right output of my eq wouldn't turn on on system power up, and popped on after giving the system some gain. Anyways, good luck. Well I have only 2 amps running right now but I already have a relay on the remote line (as I will be adding more amps soon). But the thing is, I don't even USE the amp remote on the 210EQ!!! The thing is anytime I install more than ONE amp off a remote line on a HU I always put a relay on there--it's just cheap insurance. Since I had my amps and HU and everything installed before I even owned the EQ I just have my amps running off a relay that is run to the HU's amp remote. The 210EQ's amp remote connection is empty. Must have been the previous owner that did this--and he told me he never had such a problem!!! Damnmit! So eventhough I'm always overcautious with the relays, I guess I have to suffer b/c someone didn't care to be. :( So your ENTIRE 210EQ had to be replaced?!?!? I guess yours was under warranty? That doesn't look like the cheap fix I was looking forward too :( I guess I'm just going to have to live with it then :( I wonder if I did hook up the amps to the amp remote (with the relay) on the 210EQ instead of the HU if it would make any difference? I know it doesn't sound like it would have anything to do with it, but maybe if there are NO amps hooked up it does the same thing? Maybe a long shot but it's worth a try, I guess. The worst that could happen is that it doesn't work. Oh, and yes, it was under warranty, and ended up getting a brand new eq out of the deal. That was okay with me! My only other opinion is, you may not want to let the problem go forever. It only got worse for me, and I had HU problems along with it too. That, and a speaker popping in like that could end up blowing it. I don't know how spendy it would be to get it fixed, but you could give Sony a call, they can pretty much tell you what the repair would cost. That and you only have 7 years after the product was discontinued before they stop supplying parts. Just a thought. I doubt the pop will do anything to the speaker because it is VERY light, pretty much just like FM static and it only occurs when I press OFF and then SOURCE to get it going. When it comes on by itself the pop is even lighter... As for the repair, well there are lots of ICs, capacitors, resistors, diodes, etc. listed for the 210EQ parts... Dunno if they could just replace any one component (or multiple components) to make it work again. Other than that, the repair will likely cost way more than I paid for it! I paid ~$150 for it (shipped, with an optical cable and the XA-D210 adapter so not that bad of a deal). That is around the range they go for on eBay most of the time, sometimes even less. The Main PCB is listed at $449!!! Probably b/c the unit's retail was so high. For that price I might as well buy a 4000X! I thought it was cool, but I guess not... Still, it seemed like too much code to just throw out, so I've modified things a little and I'm hoping everyone will be happy with the new, NEW arrangement. Here's how it works now: o The HTML and TXT enclosures aren't sent in the Digest any longer. o URL Links to the HTML and TEXT versions of the day's Digests will be found at the top of the digest email. o The new Digest Index will be found at the top of the digest email following the URL Links. o The full digest text will then be found in the email as before. o All of the previous Digests will now be available on line. The URL for the main digest page is: http://www.matronics.com/digest From here, you can drill into the specific List Digest of interest. o Both the HTML and TXT versions of the Digests can be found here. o The List Message Trailer will contain a Link directly to the given o Right now there's only one Digest shown, but each day there will be another. They will be sorted with the newest at the top. Left-hand column is the HTML version, right-hand column the TXT version. A couple people also complained that some messages in the HTML version were just one long line that went off to the right forever and they hated that. Come to think of it, this is also an issue in the Search Engine, List Browser, and Archive Browser. Some email programs don't included hard Returns at regular intervals and that's what causes this. I wrote a program tonight that will automatically chop these long lines into 78 characters or less and wrap the rest of the line. After tonight's Archive transfer, all of the Searching and Browsing tools shouldn't have the problem any longer either. Woo hoo! So, back to the new Digest format. What people are going to see in the new, NEW Digest is a bit of verbiage at the top of the email describing the URL links to the HTML and TXT on-line versions, followed by the Links, followed by the day's Index, followed by the day's messages just as before. Lines longer than 78 characters will also be automatically wrapped onto the next line. Hopefully this will be a more pleasing arrangement for everyone. Sorry to get everybody so stirred up over the format change! The List of Contributors is coming out tomorrow night... Still time to make that Contribution! http://www.matronics.com/contribution Best regards, Matt Dralle Email List Admin.
