fronts only, sub in truck, x-over at 98Hz. I think for image, anymore
than two speakers up front will only degrade. it's hard enough to get two
right . . .
the car is a horrible acoustic environment, so i think speaker placement
becomes even more critical, which is tough because there are usually very
limited choices.
i got pods which moved my JL650VR from the doors to my feet. made nearly
as much improvement to overall sound, as going to the CD90/4000x from a
clarion/kenwood eq.
although the previous post does peek my ears about raising the soundstage
with some small rear fill.
i finally got a nice tight image but soundstage is right at the
steering wheel.
i figured to tackle that one with custom enclosures on my next ride.
does anyone separate their mids/tweeters up front more than 6", and then
adjust with the 4000? i've thought about trying it but worry about
phasing.

only if i was doing theater in the car. personally, if i want mobile DVD
i'd get a portable. more versatile.

As it stands now, my 4's and tweets are about 15" apart.... I havn't had
that much time really with a laptop to play yet.... But what i did find is
that you should have some overlap with the frequencies they are x'd over and
the slope needs to be no more than 24db/oct... ( alot of this depends on
speakers used as well). Something i really wish i could get a list of is the
Available frequencies for the A, B, C, and D outputs.... since i got my unit
2nd hand, i am not sure i am getting all the available options. As far as my
midbass, i find it hard to believe that 500hz down is the lowest i can cross
over the top side.... i would like this to be no more than 300hz, and ideally
200-250 range.... and allow my midranges to take over from around 200 and
up.....
As far as worrying about proper phasing etc, its best to temporarilly place
the speakers and listen...... do it for a week, 2 weeks.... (also play with
the 4k to try to get the best sound also when you move it) and then do it
again till you find the permanent place. Trial and error will always yield
better results in my opinion. Every car is different and as you said, they
are not ideal acoustic environments so this may take some time, but i am sure
you can come up with something that suits your needs very well :)
Don't be afraid to play :)
hope that helps... And please, someone give me a list of all available
frequencies to Xover at!!!!
Thx
