Probably because my front end is so lacking. I had just coughed it up to being somewhat 'unfeasable'. I have a test CD that plays test tones and knew when I tuned my system my fronts (JL VR650, in qlogic pods, bi-amped to an audio art 4x25) fall off dramatically around 120Hz. I just figured it was mostly because 6.5's operating in free air (not sealed) environment couldn't do it. After your post I got to wondering, so I took my test CD to my home system that has B&W 602's (large bookshelf with 6.5 driver, denon 3300 receiver) and sure nuff, it went down to 80Hz before it fell off. I am now excited that decent mid-bass *is* possible in the car. I just have to figure out why I don't have it. I am going to upgrade my front amp first, and see what happens. This forum is great. -- Scott Walters -PacketPusher

I've seen new or like new C90s go for $300-$400 on eBay and new XDP-4000Xs for the same, meaning that I think the $810 price would be good but the reserve isn't met and the BIN is $1650??? You could almost buy two of each for that price. Then again, I guess finding brand new C90s or XDP4ks is pretty hard to do though... --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Roland M" <mdx400@hotmail.com> You should be able to get just the FP lens, but you will need to know the part number for it. I can imagine it might be anywhere from $25-$60 though, if it is available separately. Most Sony HUs have the FP lens listed as a separate part. I you have the service manual or can get one to look at you can take a look at the parts list/view to see if there is a separate part number for it. Otherwise you can phone Sony Parts and see if they can find the part number and price for you. Subject: Interesting discovery with 210EQ and MDX-400 + CDX-828...
--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Roland M" <mdx400@hotmail.com> I just thought I'd add a little bit of info I found when I connected the optical digital outs of both the MDX-400 and the CDX-828 to the 210EQ (the MDX-400 is not the HU in this setup, rather it is slaved to an XR-C9100 HU)... Anyhow I had previously hooked up the MDX-400 to the system by removing the CD changer and connecting it alone (without the multi-changer adapter). I found that when connecting it as the sole changer in the system it was required to use the "CHANGER" optical input to get sound from it. Knowing that the changer would have to use the same input I bought an optical splitter/combiner to connect the optical out of the CDX-828 and the MDX-400 both to the "CHANGER" optical input on the XDP-210EQ. I did think it was stupid thought that having a cassette HU there would be the "MASTER" optical input left empty and have the requirement to connect both changers to the same input. Not very intuitive... Well I found out the UniLink system is smarter than I thought!!! :) When I connected both changers using the MCA, I tried connecting them both to the same input, but strangely enough I couldn't get sound from MD changer... So I tried plugging in one at a time and sure enough only the CD changer would have sound output even without the splitter/combiner. So then I thought what if I connect the MDX-400's optical out to the "MASTER" input? Sure enough it worked! So it is pretty strange but when the MDX-400 is the only changer it has to be connected to the CHANGER optical in, but when there is also an optical out changer, then the MDX-400 gets connected to the MASTER input and the changer to the CHANGER input (this assuming the head unit does NOT have optical output) and everything works perfect! :) So needless to say I'm happy that the system is that smart and I don't need to use the splitter/combiner. I wonder if it is the same connecting two optical out changers when there is an analog out-only HU? Does anyone know if that works for two changers as well? (The MDX-400 is not really meant to be a stand alone "changer" but it can be slaved as such). Anyhow I just thought I'd share that little peice of info if anyone wanted to know. Roland M.

--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Roland M" <mdx400@hotmail.com> Hey, here is one VERY interesting/rare eBay finds I just came across... Maybe someone here is interested? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18796&item=3000800874 It is a very rare Sony XM-2000R amplifier--pretty much the best car amp Sony ever made, AFAIK. 1000x2 into 2 Ohms, non-bridgeable (dual mono) amplifier. Retail I think was $4000 US dollars. Seller says it is one of only 7 in North America (though I don't know about the truth of that). Disclaimer: Please bear in mind I just picked this up off eBay, I have never dealt with the seller, I do not know the seller, nor can I make any claims to his/her reliablility or credibility. I did see something at CES that looked interesting: http://www.altomobile.com/html/crossovers.html Somewhat similar in size and function to an XDP. I didn't have the chance to look at it in any detail - sorry. I think they had another new unit that they launched at the show ('UCS Pro'?), but I don't have the product info handy. On an unrelated note, I saw some nice-looking amps from Brax at the show. Has anyone used these in an install? I don't have a lot of room for gear in my vehicle, so the Brax Helix HXA500Q looks very attractive, at 32 mm x 250 mm x 432 mm (1.25" x 10" x 17") for a five channel amp.
