I don't know if you'll be able to find a replacement face, short of buying a whole
new unit from someone on eBay, but if the display is readable, man... BUY
IT. $200 for a C90?? SCORE!

Hello Everyone...
I am looking at buying a used C90 from a co-worker, for $200, but the units
face has a scratch and some cracks in the clear faceplate cover. Anyone have
any spare faceplate FS? Anyone know if parts are available?

Yeah, I ended up paying $960 for my combo, used. That included shipping from Canada
to the US though, $60 of that... so I paid $900 used for both. I'd probably
be willing to shell out $1k plus shipping or a tad more for brand new. Definitely
worth it. This is the best signal processing I've ever listened to.

I've seen used c90's go for $300-400, but whenever I looked I have never
seen a totally brand new c90 or 4000x go for less than $500 apiece. I
agreee the BIN $1650 is way too much, but I think up to $1000 would be a
fair deal. Just my 2 cents. :)

I know they are both new but seems kind of expensive to me. The reserve
isn't met at $810. I've seen new or like new C90s go for $300-$400 on eBay
and new XDP-4000Xs for the same, meaning that I think the $810 price would
be good but the reserve isn't met and the BIN is $1650??? You could almost
buy two of each for that price. Then again, I guess finding brand new C90s
or XDP4ks is pretty hard to do though...

Hey, here is one VERY interesting/rare eBay finds I just came across...
Maybe someone here is interested?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemcategory=18796item=3000800874
It is a very rare Sony XM-2000R amplifier--pretty much the best car amp Sony
ever made, AFAIK. 1000x2 into 2 Ohms, non-bridgeable (dual mono) amplifier.
Retail I think was $4000 US dollars. Seller says it is one of only 7 in
North America (though I don't know about the truth of that).
Disclaimer: Please bear in mind I just picked this up off eBay, I have
never dealt with the seller, I do not know the seller, nor can I make any
claims to his/her reliablility or credibility.

For anyone doing Home Theater/mobile video on the road, It seems that Sony
has released a new line of moniters and a new single DVD unit. Also they say
that the 10-DVD changer will have a add-on unilink kit.

Yeah, I looked forever to find my 4000x. Honestly, it was the piec of
equipment that I had always thought I could never find. I bought it
outright for 600. I was pleased with that price, and the guy who sold it to
me was very credible. If I knew anything about this guy who is selling the
XM-2000 amp I would buy it too. I have always wanted to at least hear what
that amp could do. Has anyone ever seen the super rare sony reference
speakers that were extremely expensive? I never have.
In reference to the similar processor, did it say that it only had 5
parametric bands to adjust? and also, the signal to noise ratio was around
88. The 4000x boasted 112....the highest at that time. Does anyone know if
a processor has made the same or higher claims? I'm particularly wondering
about the Alpine 5.1 processor....the $4,000 one. It is a beast.
Also, in responce to the midbass going down so low to the doors. I had a
question for you all to clarify for me. Don't most high end speakers today
(used for midrange and/or mid bass) come with an infinate baffle design,
which lets them not neccesarily need a small tight air space, but which can
optimize what ever space they are playing in? I know that the Alpine
flagship, which I have, use the infinate baffle design, but I was not sure
if most high end speakers are that way, or if the tight air space design has
been tested and/or proven to be a better sounding result? Any answers?

Hi Patric
If you talk about expensive metal speakers "Flagship" from Sony these are
Onkio made speakers on Sony order. We have tested one set and still have
them in stock. The main problem was very low sensivity of the speakers about
86dB for the mids . It is so low that you really have to use the huge amp
to run them. The sound was clear but we do not like it much as sound was to
sharp and high power to low sensivity give not enough details for the music
for the unbelievably high price.
Ansis.

Nice that Sony finally wised up and added UniLink to the DVD changer but
$200 for the XA-118 that provides that function? That's dumb--they haven't
smartened up that much it seems.
Especially while Alpine's DVD changer already has stand-alone and Ai-Net
support without having to buy a $200 adapter. (I think the Alpine costs
more though to begin with.)
Why didn't Sony just make a new DVD changer or make the adapter $50-$100.
As we all know as well it will be quite a task getting an XA-118 for less
than $200 as is the case with the rigid pricing on selectors like the XA-C30
(Multi-Changer) and XA-300 (AUX).
Hopefully the XA-118 will enable the DVX-100 to work on ANY MD/CD Control HU
and not just "recent" ones or leave people guesssing as to which units it
will work with. If they did it right it will work with both DVD Text and CD
Text on any UniLink compatible unit with CD Text support.

Oops looks like that eBay link isn't working for some reason?
Try this instead if the above doesn't work.

Also by accident I stated the power output incorrectly. I'm pretty sure it
is 1000x2 into 1 Ohm dual mono, not into 2 Ohms. Sorry about that.

Nice unit I'm sure but definitely missing a few very important features the
XDP-4000X features.
Firstly I don't see any mention of digital input facilities Toslink or
otherwise. It appears, upon second look, that one black RCA connection has
to be an S/PDIF connection so I guess it has digital input then but most
applications would require a optical to coax converter in that case. And
only one input is limiting (I mean okay the XDP only has 2 digital inputs
but hey that's better than ONE!).
Secondly, there is ZERO control over anything from the head unit. It does
mention an "optional remote" but who knows what that is like and doubt it
would be as convenient as being integrated with the HU. Not easy to control
fader, or sub level, or even EQ presets and delay/alignment settings at the
touch of a few buttons right on the same stereo you change CD tracks on.
Also I'm unsure as to if the Drive has any EQ facilities. It mentions
something about a 5-band parametric EQ (?) in the text but in the
specifications it only refers to filters, limiters and delay settings.

Also what about that DVX-11A single-disc, single DIN DVD player? Doesn't
make any mention of UniLink! How do they decide that yes the 10 DVD changer
would benefit from UniLink control but then just assume the single disc
should be left without UniLink?
It appears though, that the DVX-11A is a semi-head unit of sorts... It has
F/R "A/V Output" but no internal amps to speak of and changer control is not
mentioned. Why don't they just make a single DIN, changer-style DVD player
that can be connected to and controlled by a UniLink HU?
I mean who wants a pre-amp like unit with no (mentioned) tuner, no
(mentioned) changer controls and only Front and Rear outputs? Not even Sub
output, nevermind 5.1 channel analog...
No, nevermind that they could have been the first company to include built
in DD/DTS decoding in a single car unit which would have be cool too.
IMO they should either make it a stand-alone unit with full-HU features
(Changer control, F/R/Sub outputs at the least) OR make it a changer-type
device controlled by a HU--not some wierd thing in between! I mean who
wants to buy that? Sure I guess you could hook it up to your exisiting Sony
HU with a $100 XA-300 but then you're spending another $100 AND you can't
operate it from the HU!
Unless that DVX-11A has either UniLink control or is controlled, it looks
like Sony misses yet again :(

Oops sorry, this sentence state that the Drive is "Not AS easy to control"
as an HU controlled unit; as opposed to "Not easy" to control a unit with HU
with controls as I seem to have typed.
