--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Leo G. Divingracia III" <ldivinag@csuhayward.edu> i guess i'll give my mini CES report... well you know how sometimes no news if good news? well, in this case, no news is... no news. once again, the silly MEX-5DI is their "flagship" head unit. in fact, that is the only one that is a tuner only, no built-in amp. they added a one just like it except the black chromy face instead of a full-on yuck chrome face, but added a built-in amp and labelled it under the CDX line. i asked one of the droids there. kinda helpful. he again confirmed sony's stand in high-end line never made any money for them, yada-yada-yada... unless it freezes in hell, maybe the mobile ES line will come back. anyone have a time machine so i can go back in time to snatch up as much ES stuff i can? as for that silly add-on for the DVX-100, i nearly choked on the dude who told me it was $200 for a small piece of box. and i do mean a small piece. i'm looking at a 2.5" IDE hard drive (for laptops) in front of me and i remember that XA-118 to be slightly smaller. pigtails coming out of it for the inputs and outputs. i tried to grill the dude somemore but again, he's low on the totem pole and couldnt get me anymore info on it. i mumbled that havent they learned their lesson with the other XA adapter just to get an AUX input? i gave up after that. other than it is shipping now. i didnt even bother looking at that new din dvd player. all i remember is they sell it in bare kit, kinda bare and then a full blown kit. well the good news is that sony's pushing their P5 line. yup, you guesses it, it's a pentagon shaped subwoofer and amp line. oh and there is a new MINIDSC head unit... [sarcasm off] i'm thinking the only option to bring back the ES line is to write to the JAPANESE leaders of sony. i believe maybe that the different attitudes there can bring back some prestige into the mediocre sony mobile. on a side note, for those home theater fans, there wwere some good news. they were showing a blue-ray DVD recorder. it is so prototype, i had a hard time conversing with the person demo'ing it since it literally came off the plane from japan and was slapped onto a stand like a day or so before. really cool technology. oh, and the oh so cool 50" plasma to die for... > From: "Eli A." <ea62@msn.com> > Subject: XDP4000X-List: Sony 2003 > > --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Eli A." <ea62@msn.com> > > > For anyone doing Home Theater/mobile video on the road, It seems that Sony > has released a new line of moniters and a new single DVD unit. --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Roland M" <mdx400@hotmail.com> That will give you the main parts and accessories but he need not buy the entire front panel which is not listed there (actual part is CDX-C90FP, type it in on the box on the RIGHT and the price comes up as $180US!). But as I said he most likely doesn't need the whole FP just the lens which on MOST (but not all) models is available as a separate part. You just need to know the part number which can be found in the service manual or can be looked up by a Sony parts rep. If the lens is available separately it will cost only a fraction of the entire FP price but will still probably range from $20-$60 I'd imagine.
