Roland, I feel your pain. I kinda like the new silver look Sony has taken with
the HU's. My CDX-838 is an Xplod ES model. Although I don't remember seeing any
Xplod ES red HU's. Sony seems to have left MiniDisc mobile HU's alone for a
while. The last one I remember is the 8900 I think, if I remember correctly that
one recorded from whatever source that was connected to it. Ebay seems to be,
IMO, the best place to get the best of what Sony used to offer. I'm still hunting
for a 4Kx. I do like the display options that are available on the CDX-MP70,
C90 style display with selectable backlighting.

Has anyone seen some of the new Sony mobile HUs? The ones for 2003, I mean.
What exactly is Sony thinking???
I mean when Xplod started a few years back, I really [actually] liked the
styling (though some things I didn't like such as the removal of the 10 disc
access buttons and also the track change ring around the volume). But then
of course the quality was just not there.
Okay so now they have, IMO, taken away even the nice styling the Xplod
series had and started to make some awfully bad designed decks. (Now I know
that a lot of people never liked the Xplod red styling, but I did.) I was
looking on eBay and spotted several of the '03 models and all I can say is
that I'm really disappointed :(
It appears that many of the new decks have the same basic design with
slightly different displays...
The big kicker though is the complete lack of ergonomics of these things! I
mean has anyone SEEN them? What happened to the volume/control KNOB???
GASP! It has disappeared!
Now I wonder if the quality has improved any, because honestly I think the
design (which is very much the same for many of the models) has gone right
into the ground :(
Thanks, Sony, you've managed to make the worst models yet...
