--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Doug Dobson" <dougdobson@chartermi.net> The system he is describing sounds like the Sony XES-Z50 with an original system price of $16000. The setup is superior to the C-90/4000X, but not by a lot. There are more bands of eq I believe, but otherwise this is the system that the C-90/4000X setup is based on. As a system it is a great setup. The amps are identical and are high current. The subs have 1 ohm coils, the mids have 2 ohm coils and the tweeters are 4 ohm, so using the same amps distributes the power quite well. This is quite a nice system. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roland M" <mdx400@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: XDP4000X-List: Sony XES > --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Roland M" <mdx400@hotmail.com> > > >--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "leo g. divinagracia iii" > ><ldivinag@csuhayward.edu> > > >funny that they mention the 5 year warranty. is that from last time > >sony actually shipped it or from when they sell it... lol. > > > >the processor and the head unit is probably what the c90/4000 combo is > >now... > > > >-- > >Leo G. Divinagracia III ldivinag@csuhayward.edu Actually in compliance with most warranty laws, I'm pretty sure that the warranty is valid from the date/time of sale onwards (provided it is purchased in accordance with requirements such as buying from a currently authourised dealer). So even a unit that went out of production a long time ago and is sold at a dealer many years later the warranty would still be 5 years from the date of purchase (provided that unit has never been sold before). As for the C90 + 4000X, I believe the 4000X may actually be a superior/updated processor (or maybe just a more versatile one?) in comparison to the XES processor (what is that called the "C1"?). --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Doug Dobson" <dougdobson@chartermi.net> The Z-50 system was the new and improved version of the XES idea. It has none of the surround capabilities of the original XES P-1, T-1, C-1, and X-1 combo, as they tended to take more time to adjust properly than most people would EVER spend. Easily 100s of hours just on surround, after all eq and crossover functions are set. The Z-50 system is pure sound quality. Many scoffed at it with its $16,000 price tag, so eventually they sold just the processor and controller/changer to be used with other amps and speakers. It, like the original setup had almost no control on the display, all was done using remotes. As far as the best system ever, I've never known anyone else to sell a "whole" system, as far as electronics, this is definitely toward the top of the list. Alpine's F-1 and Pioneer's ODR and P-9 systems are also up there and a little more modern and logical to use. All have their high and low points. And for those of you who are really curious, I believe the Z-50 has the same crossover points as the XDP-4000X. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dremgragen ." <dremgragen@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: XDP4000X-List: Sony XES > --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Dremgragen ." <dremgragen@hotmail.com> > > > Is the XES system with the component pieces labeled C1, D1, P1, etc.? --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Dremgragen ." <dremgragen@hotmail.com> Yeah, and for the money, C90/4kX is the best way to go IMO. The only setup I'd rather have over the C90/4kX is the F#1 combo, but it's just insanely too much money. I'd probably pay as much as $3000 for it, but $3000 for just the cost of the head unit? No thanks. That's not worth saving up for, especially when, after FINALLY having the money for the F#1 head unit, looking at the $4000 price tag on the processor. Maybe some day when I have a real job making real money... but making $6 an hour plus tips isn't nearly enough for me. -Brody Z.
