They come in many different shapes and sizes and are 12V. Lots of people use computer fans/computer stores as their source for cooling fans for mobile audio. PC chassis fans are usually the best suited for most mobile applications, but as I said there are lots of different types of PC fans available. Roland M.

--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Pete" <dabrow@orange.net> I have the DAB tuner. It is expensive as it sells here for 480.00 at best! It has optical out which is great for the xdp-4000x and is of a high quality. All stations are free, the tuner was actually one of the first launched, it was developed before the dab broadcasts were up and running. It was intended to be used with the XES Z50 and that is why I believe it is so expensive. C90r's are hard to find, very occasionally they come up in Europe, even then the sellers get a good price for them compare to the American prices. Pete

--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "John P" <john@pmbbs.demon.co.uk> My new car is coming soon.. with it's integrated nav system / telephone etc, I can't install my CDX-C90 and XDP-4000X .. I'm sure someone would want to buy the pair as a combo as I have all the fibre optic connectors, etc, as well as two changers that I would sell as well. I have both boxes for the units and all manuals, accessories etc. I have absolutely no idea what reserve to put the units on ebay for. I am in the UK. Or, if anyone knows of a good home, then please drop me a mail. I have had the combo for two years now and have enjoyed every minute of hearing it.. Cheers, John

I don't know what happened but it appears that the US push of XM and Sirius (and therefore non-acceptance of DAB) put Canada into a state of not really having digital radio at all! Well it is at least not very popular to my knowledge in ANY form (be it DAB, XM or Sirius). But that price on the DAB tuner is shocking! Over $1000??? And I assume you mean US dollars (or Euros which is close enough)? WOW that's costly indeed. I remember Pioneer had a DAB tuner for use with IP-Bus that was sold in Canada, but I don't know if it is still a current model here. I wonder if the NA Sony UniLink heads can even control the DAB tuner. Actually I really wonder WHAT units from the "past" can control the XM tuner! We know the C90 does but what about units like the CDX-C880? Anyhow, receiving DAB broadcast is free though, right? (It is just like regular radio--no subscription fees like XM or Sirius). Perhaps that has something to do with why the tuner is expensive? >In Europe it's hard to find a used CDX-C90R. >It is sold as "CD Tuner with DAB Control" and retails around $1300 >European version of CDX-C90 is not discontinued and still considered an >up-to-date high-end Sony receiver. Really? That is interesting to know. I knew it was still available in Japan, but didn't know about Europe. Sony should still at least sell SOME units in NA if they are selling them all over the globe otherwise... Stupid Sony... >XT-63V is supposed to work exclusively with the Sony XAV-7W in-dash >receiver/monitor > >ToR. Yeah I don't think the XT-63V will work with the "TV Control" UniLink heads of time past. Funny enough I keep talking about the Sony HUs of the "past" but really that is exactly what they are! I mean XPLOD started when? 1999/2000 or so? So the last non-Xplod HUs were like the 98s, the CDX-C7850 and C8850 being the last ones with what I now call the "classic" design that I personally liked so much. I guess some units continued into the Xplod line with "TV Control" and VERY FEW with (documented) "DSP Control" but those features are all gone now (or at least they aren't documented). I know I've said this before, but I always find it funny--the irony in the fact that the XDP-4000X IS an Xplod model! The XDP-4000X was one of Sony's BEST mobile peices ever and, well, the rest of the Xplod line shows examples of the WORST peices of Sony mobile gear ever! Roland M.

    Subject: RE: XDP4000X-List Digest: 8 Msgs - 03/17/03
--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Woudsma, Mark" <Mark.Woudsma@am.sony.com> I have tried my 4000x connected to a cdx-m750 that had HX-dsp. The 4000x would turn on and pass sound, the volume worked, but I had no access to the presets. Depressing the sound buttom only would display the basic headunit functions, sub/bass/treble/fader/balance. You could nota access the CNW or PEQ settings. Mark I don't know if this has been mentioned yet (I haven't checked this email in a little while and there are a LOT of posts!), but if a unit has built-in DSP, such as "HX DSP" it is not meant to control an external DSP (i.e. an XDP unit). If you look carefully at the past models you will notice that such models that have "DSP" or "HX-DSP" dropped the DSP Control in order to "control" the internal processor. For example the difference between the CDX-C7850 and CDX-C8850 was the fact that the C7850 had DSP/TV Control and the C8850 had TV Control and HX DSP. (The C8850 also had Advanced ESP instead of ESP but that is just a small detail). The same applies for other models in the past--some of the 7 series models had DSP/TV CONTROLS, while some of the 8 series models had TV Control + Built-In DSP. It also has varied in different model years. For example the MDX-C8900 (MD "clone" of the CDX-C880) had DSP/TV Control and the year after had the MDX-C8970 which was the MD clone of the CDX-C8850 and therefore had TV Control + HX DSP in lieu of the DSP Control. Now you MIGHT be able to get SOME DSP control if you connect an XDP unit to the C8500X, but I don't think it will work correctly or you will be missing functions. In any case the official word from Sony was always that the units with built-in DSP ("DSP" on older models, "HX DSP" on later models) "gave up" DSP control in order to have that feature. I.e. They were never meant to control an XDP-766EQ, 210EQ, or 4000X, etc. As for the other questions, note that the C8500X did NOT have optical output. The only units I know of that had optical output were the CDX-900 (or was it C900?), the CDX-C910, CDX-C90, and MDX-400. There may have been other units, but I know the C8500X did not have it. Also if you want to control the DVD changer as a changer via UniLink you will need an ADDITIONAL (Probably ~$100-$150) module, the XA-xxx (I can't remember the model number so I put x's in!).
