There are two main "series" of 6-disc changer from Sony. One is the
previous generation which used the XA-T6 cartridge and the other is the
current generation using the XA-T7 cartridge.
The former included models like the CDX-T60 (ES), T62 and T65 (ES w/ESP),
and the newer group includes these models: CDX-T67, T68X (ES, w/ESP and red
case), T69 (same as T67 but with CD-RW support), and the T70MX (MP3 playback
from CD-R/RW and ESP).
Both series of changer is quite small but in different ways... The
T60/T62/T65 models are more "practically small", IMO. They are "even" in
all dimensions and are a "regular" rectangular shape. The
T67/T68X/T69/T70MX changers are small but they sacrifice width for height.
That is, they are thinner than the previous changer type but much wider. I
have a T60 that fits perfectly in my glove box, but a newer model changer
would be far too wide for instance. Depending on your install location
however, you may find the thinner and wider new series a better fit.
As for the digital ouptut, none of the aformetioned changers have it and
while fabricating the optical output may not be THAT hard (with the use of a
service manual), the problem may be in fabricating the switch/signal that
tells the XDP unit to "expect" a digital rather than analog signal (this is
why all UniLink heads and changers that support optical out have a switch
for changing to digital)...
As for the quality loss, I doubt you will notice that much of a difference
from the analog changer anyway... Despite the fact that you are getting D/A
then A/D and then D/A conversion instead of a straight D/A conversion, it
doesn't sound too much different IMO...
As for the connection, I'm a little unsure what you mean by "Y-Cables" as I
don't understand how those would figure into the connection... There are
two optical ins (HU and changer) as well as two analog input pairs (again HU
and Changer) on the XDP unit. An analog changer would simply connect to
that free analog (changer) input on the XDP. As for connecting more than
one changer to UniLink you have to have an XA-U20, XA-U40 (older models) or
XA-C30 (current model) Multi-Changer Adapter to connect more than one
changer via UniLink...

If you have either an XDP-210EQ, XDP-U50D, or XDP-4000X can you not connect
one analog changer as well as one digital? I could be wrong, but i thought you
could and you wouldn't need the adapter....
