--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: Randy Visentine <jvisentine@yahoo.com> True, You won't need to use the XA-C30 adaptor for the audio lines if you have 1 analog and 1 digital, but the Unilink buss will still need an XA-C30 or simular to recognize and plug up the 2 unilink changers and in order for the HU to recognize them as 2 distinct changers (CD2 and CD3). This is how I currently have my stsem configured, with a CDX-805 running analog to the XDP's RCA changer in, a CDX-828 running Optical in to the XDP's changer in, and both changer's Unilink's go through the XA-C30 then to the XDP's changer Unilink port. I actually ran the 805's analog RCA's through the XA-C30 in case I add another analog Unilink device (so I won't have to re-wire later if I add an XT-40 or 757MX MP3 changer). The "y" adaptor would work for 2 analog changers AUDIO, but you STILL NEED something to handle the Unilink switching (like the XA-C30 which already has analog RCA switching built in). To be completely honest, I can't tell a difference between the 805's analog interface and the 828's optical interface. They are both very clean. The XDP's A/D converters are top notch and the ES CD changers have pretty good D/A converters as well. --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: Hyo68@aol.com a little off topic, but close...Is it possible to run a portable mp3 player straight in the analog input for the changer while having a changer hooked up to the digital? Or do you need something else? --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: Randy Visentine <jvisentine@yahoo.com> You will still need the Unilink "Aux Input Adaptor". I forgot the #, but it is something like XXX 300b or something. It is a current model ans even includes 1/8" TRS stereo ins as well as a USB in for a laptop! Runs like $99. The analog input will be seen as another changer (CD3) or an MD changer (MD1), but will simply switch to the analog input without physically controlling any Unilink devices. If you try to hook up the MP3 to the analog input, the XDP will ALWAYS default to the digital Toslink input if it is "on" and the carrier sync is present (anytime the changer is selected, the laser turns on and the carrier signal is present). You could disconnect the optical input from the changer (while leaving the Unilink connected), and then the analog ins would accept the analog MP3 player as long as the CD changer is currently selected and still playing. This would mean un-connecting the Toslink everytime you want to select your MP3 and re-connecting the Toslink to go back to the CD changer.
