I agree,, if you got the cable from a Sony XM kit and it has the same
connector as your old cable then you will be fine. Yea don't try a Alpine
Ai Net cable it will for sure not work and will fry your gear. Alpine
uses different pin outs and voltage down it's AiNet cable.

Hello,
As long as it is a "Sony Unilink" cord, it should work
fine. To my knowledge, the Sony XM uses plain old
Unilink, so it should work fine.
Just an FYI - I don't think the Alpine Ai Net cable is
compatible even though they use the same style
connector - I fried an XDP-210EQ using the Alipne
cable years ago...

Really? I wonder if it was the Ai-Net cable that was at fault though, or
perhaps just a defect or short caused the occurence. The Ai-Net cables are
electrically identical to UniLink cables, as are JVC J-Link cables. They
are all wired straight through with the same connectors. I have an Ai-Net
cable connecting one of my changers and have no problems with it. As far as
I know they are fully cross-compatible as they are the same cable with the
same ends. Some of the Alpine ones are a bluish colour and have the letters
Alpine printed on them but they still work. A nice feature of some of the
Alpine ones is that some have a right angled connector--something I've never
seen on a Sony cable.
You should be able to use Ai-Net, UniLink and J-Link cables all
interchangeably. Additionally any changer cable from a Blaupunkt CDC-M5 or
CDC-M7 changer (these models ONLY) is also useable as those were actually
Sony UniLink changers.
