It might be the "collar" or "frame" or something like that--I'm not quite sure. You have to ask DAPC... They USED to have a "live help" button where you could talk to someone online but with the new website design (which is otherwise much nicer) it seems to be gone. You'll have to phone them. They can usually help you out if you give them the model # and describe the part. You could also check the intall manual to see if it has the part numbers for such things as the trim ring... The difference between the models is as follows: XT-U400V and XT-U500V -These models are of the same "generation". -The U500V is the superior tuner as it offers 4-antenna input and therefore diversity tuning. (the U400V only has a single antenna input) -The U500V has separate LCD and CRT outputs while the U400V has one output with a switch. This is really of no consequence these days as the digital LCD output won't be used unless you have one of the old Sony LCDs. The CRT output is composite video (after using the appropriate cable to convert the proprietary connection) and is used for the mobile LCDs of today anyhow. -These models will display CUSTOM FILE (8 Character) titles for CDs and Radio on your display screen/monitor. XT-U400V and XT-40V -These models are identical except the 40V is a generation newer. -The 40V can also display MD-Text on the display screen whereas neiter the U400V or U500V can do this apparently. This is only important if you have or plan to add an MD changer, but still isn't a big deal even if you do add one and only have the U400V--you just won't get the MD titles on the monitor. -Other than that the U400V and 40V are the same tuner. -NONE of the three models can display CD-TEXT on the monitor as they do not understand that "language" from the UniLink heads. As you can see the XT-40V is the newest tuner that is compatible (and only one of three anyway) and the U500V is the best in terms of TV tuning capability. As for the $150 (US?) price on the XT-40V that is pretty decent. If you would like to buy my XT-U500V I can sell it to you for $80 US plus shipping (Since I decided not to use it, I'm selling it for what I paid for it really--which was a very good deal on the unit. I'm asking a little more than I paid in US dollars because the Canadian dollar is up compared to before so to even out what I paid the $80 US ends up being what I paid in CDN dollars.) I don't have anything but the tuner though. You'll have to pick up a UniLink cable and wire the power yourself (the wiring pin-out is on the unit itself anyway) and possibly that video cable (that isn't included with any of the tuners anyhow). Let me know if you're interested in the U500V... First, make sure that you have the "special cable" that connects the Phatbox to the rest of the Unilink system. Phatbox may have just sent you one of the old-style cables that won't work right with the new firmware. Speaking of firmware, make sure that you have the latest firmware. This would be version 6.0 I believe. This is the version that supports the 4000x/C90 combo. What if you just plug your Phatbox directly into the C90? How about C90->4000x->Phatbox? Any change in symptoms? With many of us we have a history of learning these tips through success, through trial and error, or by seeing a friend have the misfortune of learning the hard way. What if each of us tried to come up with 10 main tips that we would wish to communicate to each other like EQing, setting crossover points and slopes, setting level adjustment, time allignment, or speaker location? WHAT I'M TRYING TO GET AT IS that perhaps we can shair our knowledge base to each other more SPECIFICALLYwith this forum. I definately could use some tips or some great points to remember when EQing for example. Others of you may want to know more about how to better set the level adjustment in the crossover section, how to understand the best time allignment as possible, or how to begin the best order of operations in tuning a system. Regardless of the issue, I thought it would be great to put down 5-10 main points that each of us had learned, and to communicate this to the entire forum. Perhaps we will learn something new, or take new things into consideration, as we are after the best sound as possible. I guess as a forum, this is what we are supposed to do anyway, but many times I believe as though we take a topic, disagree or with it, respond, agree, clarify, explain, and so on. What if we took a topic (x-over selection for example), and each discussed it for a week with what we allready know, hit the main points of what we would want to tell another from what we personaly had learned, and then let each of us as readers decide on the best option to try and take? I believe this would help each of us find solutions to our problems more clearly. Then the next week, we could move into a different topic and so on. What do you all say? I beleive that if the forum became more like this, then it might serve to be more helpful (not to say that it is allready, we know it is helpful) Really guys, I'm just looking to continue to learn about this wonderful EQ, and I wish to keep this forum feeling fresh and helpful since there is much I could learn from you all, and vice versa. I would definately like to get some feedbck concerning your thoughts, agreements, dissagreements, whatever, as well as who might be interested to set a calander of proposed topics to start up this process, if it were something, as a forum, we thought would be helpful. Call me with your ideas if you like 561 379-5336 or e-mail me back at ultra_19@hotmail.com I enjoy a meangful discussion Patrick Freeland ________________________________ Message 11 ____________________________________ Time: 04:48:16 PM PST US From: "Pete" Subject: RE: XDP4000X-List: 2 x 10 DISK CHANGER --> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Pete" Colin, A Sony xa-c30 will get the changers hooked up together - unlink multi plug not for digital, they did one for digital buts its very rare. I have recently got my hands on a pair of Vifa 4 ohm 8's that will be my new midbass drivers. These are the same drivers out of the Mackie Studio Monitors that go for $1500+ a pair. As far as a new midrange i was looking at the PHL drivers at www.phlaudio.com and raised a couple of eyebrows. Does anyone have any experience with these drivers? This is what I am running until I get a Phatbox - I'll replace the Analog changer w/ the Phatbox and still have an optical 10 disc and the Optical C90 for "SQ", and the Phatbox w/analog for everyday jamming. You will still need the XA-C30 to split the Unilink signal properly. You don't have to run the single analog changer's RCA's throught the XA-C30 - unless you plan on adding another analog Unilink device to the 3rd XA-C30 connection, then all analog rca's must go through the XA-C30 and it will select which analog input to send to the XDP.
