Not the same as the xt radio.
Its for Europe and Canada I think you will find. However, this could
change.

What is this and is it avail in the US and if not are they thinking
about it. My understanding of the tech is that it is the same as XM
radio. is this true or not.

No not the same technology as XM radio. The model number is probably the
Sony DAB tuner. DAB = Digital Audio Broadcast (or something to that
effect). It isn't a satellite based service like XM and there are no fees
to pay. It is just like having a regular radio--you're free to pick up
whatever you receive. DAB is carried in a way that is close to how FM is
broadcast from what I know.
However whereas the XM hardware/tuner/etc. are relatively cheap, the DAB
tuner is quite expensive. I guess this is the trade-off... You either have
cheaper hardware and pay subscription fees or buy more expensive hardware
and pay no fees for reception.
DAB is older technology than XM and it never really took off in North
America.
DAB isn't really supported in the US, though and that is why you don't see
the DAB tuner in the US market. DAB has been supported by some Canadian
stations and it was pushed somewhat in Canada (especially by Pioneer), but
it still never really took off and no one really has a DAB tuner here.
Again, you don't see Sony's DAB tuner in Canada either. In Europe it was
big enough though--many stations are out there and a lot more people have
DAB tuners.
I'm sure you could get the DAB tuner and hook it up to an NA C90/XDP-4kX but
it is so expensive and you probably wouldn't get many (if any) channels.
Your best bet for digital radio (in the US) with the C90 is to go with the
XM tuner.

thanks that is what I wanted to know. I will pass on the xm thing though what is
the point of paying for radio. that is why you buy CDs?? I dont know XM never
really did it for me. they have those digital cable music channels and after
a while they recycle music I assume that XM is about the same thing. it might
be diffrent if you got internet access from a company and got XM for free. thenm
when you canceled the service the XM signal would stop too that would make
it a better deal.
