My reception sucks too. Could be my antenna, but my other head units had better
reception than I get with this... but good god man, if you spend the money to
get a CD player this nice (likely with the 4000X) why on earth are you listening
to the radio?
:)

My reception has been excellent with the C90 in both the truck and vette
installations. Better than any other deck I've owned. In both cases I'm
using the stock antenna. Just another couple of data points...

Subject: | Re: Poor Radio Reception with C90+ |
--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: Randy Visentine <jvisentine@yahoo.com>
I have to agree - my FM reception is absolutely AWFUL!
The problem for me is while moving, the reception of
even strong local stations will fluctuate, and the
tuner goes between Mono and Stereo, and it just
toggles back and forth. It is VERY annoying, but I am
used to it by now (I've owned 5 Sony HU's!).
It seems that my CDX-C780 has better reception than my
C-90 or C-910! I also have a Sony home system with
the STR-DA777ES, and its tuner sounds FANTASTIC! But,
it is hooked up to a huge antenna, and is stationary.
FYI - The "DX/Local" setting is ONLY for the seek
function of the tuner. If set to "Local", it will
seek past any weaker distant stations. This will not
affect reception, only seeking.
On the level imbalance issue, my tuner is fairly equal
with my optical AND analog CD levels. This will
obviously vary with your source CD's (Heavily
compressed commercial recordings will be louder than
more dynamic "Faithful" recordings). I know the C910
(Or was it the C780?) has a level selector in the
setup menu. This selects the fixed output level of
the Head unit's ANALOG out's when used with a DSP
unit. I think it is adjustable between -16 and -12 or
something. I believe this was to address an input
overload problem when used with the old Unilink
surround DSP unit (the hotter "-12" setting should not
affect a 4000x). I don't remember the C90 having this
option, but you can check.
Oh well, I guess once I eventually get a Phatbox, the
radio will be practically useless :) !
Enjoy...

I have 1999 Grand prix GTP and the radio reception with the factory deck was
great. i don't get it, Sony even try to use the radio reception as a
selling feature also.
