Subject: | Subwoofer recommendations ? |
--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: "Dick Brussee" <djpbruss@xs4all.nl>
Hello XDP-People,
I'm looking for a nice subwoofer to fit the XDP4000. Does anybody know a good subwoofer
which I can buy in a Box/cabinet, so that I won't have to build it myself.
And yes, I would like one or more bass-tubes in it. Active or passive
? I allready have an amplifier and I have now a MB quart 30 cm woofer in a case/box/cabinet,
but that does not give me the bass I really liked in my other car
with the Magnat open air, bi-wired subwoofer. But then again, that was in a
van and now I have a coupe......
Any thoughts ?
Dick Brussee

Hello Dick,
I am going to have to suggest JL Audio since I won the IASCA Finals with
JL subs. They should work great for the price and availability. I would
recommend a sealed box for better sound quality. Just my two cents.

Well I've been doing this for quite some time. JL makes a wonderful product and
they have a great network of help in the enclosure area. The most musical, linear
sounding sub I have ever used is the one I am now. The a/d/s/ r12.2. Hands
down the best buy in my opinion, only other sub I have heard that sonuded better
is a servo controlled one. Now don't take my word for alone,I was sponsored
by them, go try some out and make the decision yourself. I think you will be
greatly impressed..I know I was..

Both the mentioned subs are very nice. The JL W7 is THE
best SQ sub on the market due to it's ultra-linear motor
design. This means it will have less distortion at all
output levels than most other subs. But many don't like
the sound of subwoofers not producing distortion, so that
is where you will have to decide if it sounds good to you.
I used to run the a/d/s/ 312RS subs, and then switched to
the Adire Brahma. The a/d/s/ subs sounded awesome, but
the Brahma sounds better IMO. The Brahma has an
ultra-linear motor design, different than the W7 but with
the same results. But due to the custom parts, the W7 has
some slight mechanical advantages, but also a much higher
price tag. So you should be able to get 95% of the
performance of the W7 at almost half the price. Check out
www.adireaudio.com for more details.

I agree that the W7 is one of the best subs on the market..but not sure
about the best SQ sub. I'm looking to get a Focal Utopia 33WX...very
transparent and very linear sub...try and listen to one. Anyone know where
I can get one at a decent price?
Mike
