--> XDP4000X-List message posted by: Christopher Scoles <crscoles@yahoo.com>
Hi everyone. I am new to your list. I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Chris. I have had a Sony ES 910 for years and am now finally starting to build out the system. I recently picked up an XDP-210EQ. I looked for a 4000 for a while, but they seem to be very hard to come by. My first question is regarding the XA-D210/211 adaptor. I have been trying to pick one up for a while. There were two on ebay just recently, but I lost out on both auctions. Anyway, I been through your archives researching alternatives to the adaptor. I was specifically looking for the actual pinout for the plug. I know there are three different channels, VCC, Data, and Ground. What I couldnt find is which ring on the plug is which? The reason I ask is because, I found this converter, http://cgi.ebay.com/Audio-Authority-977T-977TPO-Digital-Converter_W0QQitemZ5805001032QQihZ008QQcategoryZ14968QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem. I believe it will work if you
could get a cable with the correct plug configuration on the head unit end.
Any thoughts, opinions, or help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Chris

Chris,
I was in the same boat as you about the XA-D211, I called everywhere and scoured
the net, got the same answer from all "sorry we don't sell that anymore". You
just have to be prepared to pay the premium on ebay, do the last minute snyper
thing. I got lucky, I bought a second C90 for a spare, and the adapter came
with it , and it was not even disclosed in the auction. Good luck finding one.

Hi Chris,
These guys might have one (scroll to the bottom of the page):
http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog/Sony_Accessories.html
Also, the German Amazon.de seems to list it:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00006OAHH/028-1978638-1838131?v=glance&n=562066
And here as well:
http://www.edbpriser.dk/Listprices.asp?ID=147035
I took a look at the schematics on the CDX-C90 today and found a little information
on the pinout for the XA-D210/D211. I've included a snippet of the schematic
below that details the specific information related to the XA-D210/D211.
Looks like Pin1=VCC (+5v), Pin2=Data, and Pin3=Grd. This probably means, that
for the XA-D210, the TIP is +5v, the next in ring is DATA, and the shoulder is
Ground (connection closest to the plastic).
You should verify this with a Volt meter and optionally a oscilloscope.
As far as a digital to toslink converter, you might also want to take a look at
your local Radio Shack. They used to have a number of devices for converting.
Seems like they were around $20.
Best of luck!

Thanks Matt,
I contacted MCS a while ago, they don't ship outside the UK. I have no idea about
the Danish company. My girlfriend lives in Germany, so I will probably go
that route if I can't figure something out.
The reason I chose the Audio Authority one was because it was the only one that
runs off 12v DC. Everything else seems to be 6V-9V. I figured it would be fairly
easy to wire it to turn on with the head unit instead of finding a cigarette
lighter power adapter or something of that sort.

6-9v is actually what you want. You've already got 5v coming from the C90 for
powering the XA-D211. That should be sufficient to power the other devices.
That way you don't have to mess with extra power and how to turn it on and off.

Sorry for the slightly off-thread question but here goes.
Ive been unsuccessfully looking for a +-12 volt power supply that uses +12v as
its source. I need this to power a few OP Amp based circuits in one of my cars.
Do any list members know where to find one of these?
Thanks,
Jim
