Telmnstr thanks for your help I might have to take you up on that offer of building
my own. I had one question though how proprietary is that plug? will something
like this work:

To be honest, I don't remember. I think it was less than 8 pins, but I
could be wrong. Anything with 3-4 pins should be able to handle the signal
(ground + audio L + audio R + composite video).
Over the next few days I'll ring it out and post the results!
