Nope because again it's a USB B-connection. B connections are device socke ts, A connections are hub/host sockets. The +5V USB power goes from A to B, so trying to charge something from a B plug would be like plugging two DC-in jacks together and trying to charge o ne device--it just doesn't make any sense. To charge your HD3 you'll have to use the stupid mini-dock connector and th en either a 5V USB cig lighter adapter (or other 12VDC input adapter) and c onnect a USB cable from there to the mini-B on the mini-dock. However cons idering you have to use the mini-dock on the HD3, it's much better to use a 6V cig lighter adapter and plug into the DC-in jack on the mini-dock inste ad, as it charges much faster and is where it's actually supposed to get po wer from. It can be powered/charged by the USB mini-B connection alone but this is not recommended and it will take much longer to charge as well. The mini-dock on the HD3 makes charging in-car impractical as it's stupid l ooking and awkward; and you really don't want to lose or damage that thing or you'll have no way to transfer to it or charge the player. I have an HD 3 (actually two of them) and I don't get for the life of me why they didn't put a separate DC-in jack and mini-B connector right on the player (they d id do this on the HD5 though). It doesn't support connecting other devices as a host (which would have a USB-A plug l ike on a computer). Instead the XA-300 functions as a USB sound card (actu ally appears as "USB Speakers" with a Burr-Brown D/A in XP, IIRC). You can 't plug other devices into it. It would be like plugging in an HDD into a printer or a thumb drive into wireless network adapter, lol.
