For years now I've been satisfied with my Phatbox as a solution to carry my entire collection with me but navigation is slow and quality takes a hit even with lossless encoding. With that said, I'm interested in finding a way to trick the 4000x into playing back an optical signal converted from my iPhone. My only ideas at this point would be to cycle between the optical input of my deck and the iPhone or to connect an optical changer and using an optical cable to my iPhone, however this would require that the changer or my head unit's CD player be on and playing needlessly. Does anyone else know of a way to force the 4000x to accept and playback an optical signal without having to use some sort of dummy source that runs in the background? Its a spendy purchase to make this all work so I want to iron out all the details before I jump..
