While its not a perfectly seamless installation as the C90 only controls vo lume and cannot change tracks directly, my installation has the iPhone moun ted within reach on my console which makes for simple access and the tool I use to convert the signal to digital TOSlink comes with a remote as well i f you want to use it. I find the touchscreen on the iPhone the easiest way to do what you want, or you can also use voice commands. To start I use a home audio piece called the Pure i-20 to convert the iPhon e's signal to optical. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049MOK92 I hid the Pure i-20 underneath my center console and extended the dock to m y iPhone's car mount with this cable. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004PBBSWO To power the Pure i-20 I needed a car adapter that would convert to its pro per DC Voltage. The factory adapter is rated at 7.5v, 1.2A. I had an extr a laying around, but a simple cigarette adapter sold from Radioshack should have the proper voltage and connector, or a small power inverter could als o be used if you want to stick with using the original power adapter. Don' t worry too much about the 1.2A power rating, the unit doesn't appear to be nearly that power hungry. I'm guessing this is because the way I'm using it doesn't require a high voltage analog signal when being used in digital mode. I believe the adapter I use is rated at only 500ma., but after 6 mon th's of continuous use and in this crazy heat wave we're having right now, it still doesn't even run hot. I hard wired the adapter to my electrical s ystem and installed a relay that turns on with my deck and from there I con nected my optical cable from the Pure i-20 to the 4000x in the spot where m y C90 would normally plug in digitally. My C90 is wired via analog so I ca n still listen to cd's when I want. Then for fun I created a 1 track silen t 80 minute CD labeled iPhone Digital and put it in the C90. The final hit ch, your C90 has to be playing a CD in order for the 4000x to be on and act ive at the input. If you have no other sources on your system the CD should just repeat on its own or you can set the C90 to repeat the disc from the menu. From there just cycle through the menu to either enable or disable t he digital output to choose your source. Power cycle your C90 and the sourc e you selected will be available; lossless digital audio from your iPhone i f encoded as such, limitless access to Pandora radio which if find worlds m ore listenable than XM radio ever was, and an exciting new option that came out recently is Spotify which has the option to operate in high quality mo de over 3G. 320kbps streaming audio sounds damned fine for those of you lu cky enough to have good cell service available to you. In all the final cost was around $130 for the parts I didn't have and insta ll time was a couple hours simply because I wanted to hide the Pure i-20 ou t of sight and have a convenient place to mount and access my iPhone. I re commend using the cabled dock extension, as the Pure i-20 is a little bulky for placement in a car and it doesn't play nice with many iPhone cases. I n the end I've found I use my iPhone for the majority of my critical listen ing on my system now, and default to my Phatbox only when there's an album I haven't synced to my iPhone. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mike Piccin <mpiccin2@hotmail.com> Sent: Mon, 02 Jul 2012 23:44:05 -0000 (UTC) Subject: Re: XDP4000X-List: Re: XDP4000X-List Digest: 0 Msgs - 06/30/12 How do you hookup your iPhone to the 4000x? I just got an iPhone and had no idea that this could be done. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Since they're no longer made I'd imagine the right person might be willing to pay $80-$1 00 if they needed the part badly. But the question is, how many of us out there still have and use this equipment and actually have the need? Person ally I don't even use digital out from my head, as I utilize the 4000x's di gital input for my iPhone which has access to a huge lossless library inste ad of a single cd at a time. Fun that this equipment has remained so versat ile after more than a decade! Sent from my iPhone On Jul 1, 2012, at 10:06 PM, NOTGSXR@aol.com wrote: So........
