I'm getting ready to replace all flexible hoses on my 52. Is there anyone out
there that sells a kit to replace all the hoses in the aircraft or does anyone
have a list of all of the exact sizes and lenghts needed and where to get
them?
Anyone got any opinions on replacing all of the hoses with a really good
quality, stainless overbraid type hose. I hear these have an almost unlimited
service life.
Anyone know where to get these with metric end fittings?
Thanks in advance!

Folks,
I just finished #43s annual and we found a guy here that does nothing but prop
balancing, blade angle measurements and engine vibration testing (started out
on Army choppers and AF C-130s). The end result is an M-14P and MTV three blade
prop that is unbelievably improved at all RPMs, like flying someone elses airplane.
Can't say enough about getting a specialist to visit your hanger if
your mounts a' shakin...
His equipment also measured and produced a computerized graphic (squiggly lines
for us pilots) of crankshaft vibration, among other measurements; this analysis
alone was nice to have as a look in to the guts of the engine.
Something he passed on about our shock mounted instrument panels: He mentioned
that if you're having some significant vibration in the panel at certain RPM
ranges (besides doing prop balancing and everything else discussed) he recommends
that if you get new rubber shock mounts, mix older ones with newer ones (of
course throw out the shot ones). The concept is the panels, based on the rubber
strength, elasticity, etc., tend to harmonize all at once at certain frequencies
(RPMS), by not having them all the same (reacting the same), the panel
shake should be reduced.
I have his contact info if you live in the SOCAL area. He will be at Red Star
West 03 with his equipment, he is writing an article on the subject for the web
and I will let you know when I get something.

Check with Stew Cochran of Yak Parts Central. He has the complete
replacement hose kit.

Frank, you can also have your hoses remanufactured by an Aeroquip dealer.
They will reuse your metric hose ends.

I had some Chinese (ROC) soldiers visit my hangar. They were stationed
at Fort Bliss or White Sands (Clinton years). They said my wingtips
said "training squadron" and my fake missiles said "killer bomb" and
laughed. When I asked if this was equivalent to "missile" they said
"no" that it really said "killer bomb" which they thought was about as
humorous as we think some of the passages in the original PRA-translated
Chinese operating manual are.

Paul,
Our midwest event is just before Oshkosh, at manitowoc. I assume you are
a YPA member, if not it's a good thing to do, just to network, get
training and have fun.
Also in the area is Bob Monzo, -52, Brian Olafson at Kankakee, -52, Bob
Fitzpatrick at Custer Park, -52, and Don Jones at Sandwich, -CJ. Not all
are interested in formation work.
The YPA will hold a pre-Sun 'N Fun clinic in April out of Batow, FL, a
May clinic at Columbus, Nebraska, and numerous others in '03.
Be aware that there will are some operational differences between NATA
training and YPA training. We all read from the same book but there is a
lot not in the book.

Thought you guys might like a little aircraft related diversion. Here's
a link to some birdstrike pictures as well as a PowerPoint document that
shows what happens when you overpressure a KC-135. Here's the link
