Well, at least we HAVE paint jobs! :)
There *is* one new paint scheme on the block that isn't quite
Russian......
Frank, your paint scheme is cool. I hope you have half as much as you
put in to your plane for your paint scheme, cuz to do it right it's
gonna cost that much! It'll be awesome though, and I echo Craig's
suggestions even if he does pick on me.... :)
Merry Christmas

John and YAK/CJ owners.
The gear seals are chevron seals, these perish, get hard, and fail. The results
of a failure are air system leaks that result in collapsed legs, legs not transiting
and general inconvenience.
The "lifters" should be overhauled on a 5 years basis according to the OEM. When
you disassemble them you will find most likely that the seal retaining rings
made from ally could well be corroded. This allows the seal to roll out of its
grove.
ANY AIR LEAK FROM THE GEAR SELECTER OR EMG BLEED VALVE indicates a seal problem
in the lifter or emg shuttle valve 9.9 times out of 10. Just occasionally the
"0" ring in the selector valve leaks, but on 110 a/c we have sold, (90 x Y52)
I make that 200 selectors and only approx 3 have leaked.
Seals can be bought, made in the USA but do make sure they are the correct size,
some of early manufacture we found undersize, these caused intermittent gear
failures.
George Coy has OEM parts in stock. I recommend these. Even if your gear is working
fine, please do disassemble and service at 5 years, its called preventative
maintenance, you will be very surprised at the crap and crud in the lifter,
this will rust the piston and sleeve if not cleaned out.
Seasons greetings, take care.

Gus, If you pressurize the system in the gear down position, and you have
air leaking, put your a/c on jacks and open the return side fitting on
the actuators. The actuator that is leaking will be apparent. Then it is
a simple thing to remove the actuator and replace the "O" rings,
re-grease and re-install. Good luck...John

Ah Grasshopper,
You took the bait! Amazing how SLOW those aircraft are with fancy paint.
Perhaps that shiny surface is highly viscous and just "graps" those air
molecules or perhaps my paint is so ugly that air molecules just slip
right on by?? Then again, on a flyby, the slower CJ's and Yaks will
appear in front of an observer a lot longer, thereby allowing more time
to view the nice paint as opposed to seeing just a blur streaking by.
It just ain't fair....ya spend all that money and you still have a slug.
Watch out for speeding T-34's now.
