Well last week I was having dinner at my favorite japanese restaurant, and John Tavolta walked in. I had the manager give him a card which invited him to the Leeward Flyin during S&F. On his way out of the restaurant I said "See ya at S&F" and when he realized that I was the guy who invited him he sat at the bar with me introduced me to his wife and kids and we talked airplanes for about 15 min . My CJ is AOG for exhaust stacks, but I've been fligh testing it on the Bus (Airbus 320). A couple of things placed in combination has made it difficult to use on the Airbus. One: the Bus is very electronically noisey. It does not disipate static very well and I was hearing everything from window hear cycling to ACARS message transmissions. Two: Panther changed microphone providers and ended up with a high impedence control box (Model E1). This box is sensitive to RF noise (exactly what the Bus produces a lot of). Placing magnets on both wires into the box stops the problem, but that's not suitable as a long term answer. I'm now on a Model D3, but it still requires a magnet on the airplane end of the box (works fine without for a couple of minutes then is sounds like a geiger counter at a unranium mine on intercom). I just learned this on Saturday and will visit Panther Friday for the next iteration of the tests. Meanwhile, I freak out my F/Os as I talk "without" a mic. They send you some ear goo to make molds of your own ear...a strange and unconfortable process. I sent it back to them, and they replied a few weeks later saying I didn't do it right. They sent me more goo. I remolded my ears. I sent that in and didn't hear from them for several weeks, so I called. They said it would be another three weeks...that was five weeks ago. So.. I put two overhauled mags, on my M-14p. The runup check was fine. I made a :30 flight and when I returned, I had a 200 rpm drop on the right mag. To this point I have replaced all the plugs with news one. I have changed ALL the plug wires. I've check the timing 4 times. The gap is OK. I check and adjusted valve clearances (only 3 had to be adjusted very little) I still have the 200 to 220 rpm drop on the same mag. Shouldn't take too long to do this and the riddle may be solved. Its amazing the amount of time and money you had to invest into this pesky problem.
