If you still have a left mag problem after the change then I would look at the mag switches. I had a problem with the front mag switch caused by the case being tightened so much that a post inside was sometimes contacting the case. this weekend soon!!!! --> Yak-List message posted by: Brian Lloyd <brian@lloyd.com> Uh, why does Larry need anything from his city council? Federal preemption prevents local municipalities from overriding federal jurisdiction and regulation. As long as he performs his aerobatics above 1500' thus not requiring a wavier from the FAA, why get involved with the city council at all? Or does he need a low-level aerobatic box? Still, I would think that this would be purely an FAA issue and not local city council. Voting on this might feel good but it also might lead the city council into thinking that they actually have jurisdiction, a bad thing that could lead us down into rampant regulatory inconsistencies across the country. I think that Larry needs to talk to the EAA and AOPA for assistance in this area. votethis weekend soon!!!! --> Yak-List message posted by: "Richard Basiliere" <BasiliereR@ci.boulder.co.us> I think I can tell you why. From the People's Republic of Boulder... a few years ago the PRB stopped, fined, and forced into Court a fellow pilot who's only "violation" was to fly banners legally over Folsom Field (University of Colorado's football field) to advertise for his clients. It took the FAA filing a "friend of the Court" brief to let the PRB know in no uncertain terms that the air they breath belongs to the FAA and the pilot has the right to do what he was doing. So, after years of unimaginable hassles and untold attorney costs he was once again allowed to engage in his vocation. From what I've seen City Councils get on their power trips and "I'm the Daddy and I say so." is all too often their shoot from the hip answer with no background investigation at all. I agree 100%. Which is why it may need to go to a suit. Local governments can be quite oppressive since the people involved often have no background or undertanding of law or government. They think that just because they were elected to sit there they can pass any law they want any way they want. Hence someone needs to periodically point out that there are checks and balances that ensure equal treatment under the law across the United States, even for local jurisdictions. More people should protest when the government, local or otherwise, oppresses and then they should file suit to recover their costs for fighting it. You know, failure to be aware of a law is no defense when you break a law. Too bad politicians are not held to the same standard. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201 brian@lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 - voice +1.360.838.9669 - fax

--> Yak-List message posted by: Walt Fricke <walterfricke@yahoo.com> I've known Larry for years. In fact, He was one of the "early adapters". Took me for a ride in a Yak-52 before I knew what it was. This was 10-15 years ago. He was also sporting one of the first Yak-50's in the US at the time as well. He has been a great supporter of our community. He didn't even know me and when I admired the 52, he said "hop in" and he took me out and let me fly the plane......of course drug dealers use a similar tactic... I just voted and we are "crushing" the competition at 88%! Although I have seen Larry fly his routine very safely and very well, I would like to have added a 25th stipulation that the waiver not go "all the way to the ground". http://taxes.yahoo.com/

    Subject: mags,
--> Yak-List message posted by: cjpilot710@aol.com Mystery solved I want to thank every one who contacted me off list with all kinds of helpful suggestions. It turns out it was the overhauled magneto after all. I took a number of folks advice and switched mags from one side to the other. I'd had been against this at first because I thought I'd have to reindex the mag along with retiming them. It turns out you don't have to. When the engine is at top dead center, the L & R mag drives are lined up the same. Timing becomes the only consideration than. I might have found this earlier IF I done the switch than. However I kept finding little things wrong here and there (chafe wires, broken shielding, stuff like that). Although this wasn't the cause of my particular problem, they were on their way to become headaches. So though the problem cost me a lot of frustration, and money, it was for the best because I've dealt with a lot future problems. A frontal attack by a mob, especially a mob that doesn't vote in that jurisdiction, doesn't usually buy you anything. You want to set it up so that you are *going* to win and then show them how you are going to win. With few exceptions this will get them to back down since a public bruhaha that they lose does not look good at reelection time, especially if it cost the city/county money. Politicians like to be seen backing a winner. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201 brian@lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 - voice +1.360.838.9669 - fax

Oh, I agree with that 100% also, which is why I asked the earlier question about whether he needed a low-level box. If he doesn't need a low-level box he should just do what he feels so long as he conforms to all the applicable FARs. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201 brian@lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 - voice +1.360.838.9669 - fax

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Doug" <rvfltd@televar.com> Is there anyone out there, who has in fact installed a Chinese air compressor on a M14P or a M14P compressor on a 285 hp? Many of the guy with M14P's are asking if I know for sure that the Chinese pump will work on the M14P. Since I have not actually done it I cannot answer with absolute confidence, I can only say that I "think" that it will fit up and work just fine. Also, Ron Lee is looking for a 28 volt Cornelius compressor, anybody got one? Always Yakin, Doug Sapp

--> Yak-List message posted by: brian olofsson <brian060901@yahoo.com> Doug: I bought a Chinese air compressor from you a couple yrs ago and installed it on myM14P . Worked great. The engine went bad (unrelated) a while later, the pump was removed and reinstalled in Bob Fitzpatricks yak, he then went bad (unrelated I hope). The air compressor however still works well. Unlike the CJ's and Yaks, my L-29 has no onboard compressor and must be recharged on the ground.
