--> Yak-List message posted by: "jay reiter" <jmreiter@adelphia.net> We had a problem installing the elevator because a sealed non centering bearing had previously been installed in the inboard position. The pivot pin would go into the bearing half way and lock. One of the other fellows noticed the bearing bracket was flexing with each push we inserted a screwdriver in the elevator slot to back up the bracket with one person holding the screwdriver at the top and one at the bottom. The three of us pushed at the same time and the elevator seated. Hope this helps someone. Jay

I happened to have a bad habit to save every pieces of all documents. Here you are again: ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave Strawn Subject: Fw: David Strawn's CJ - Engine Must Be Replaced Andrew, I just wrote a check to Doug Sapp for $12,500 for a Huosai engine. tests=QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT,REFERENCES,SPAM_PHRASE_01_02, --> Yak-List message posted by: "Walt Lannon" <lannon@look.ca> Jay; A little overbalance (ie; leading edge heavy) is probably acceptable. Some specs. for other aircraft require that. Don't know for sure since we have no specs. Have you completed the paint finish or just doped to silver? Re your bearing problem: Take a flashlight and mirror and make sure that other bearing is still intact. It takes very little force to liberate the inner race and balls from the self-aligning bearings. The pins need to be perfectly aligned - they will slide in with no force at all. Did you replace the non-aligning bearing? Walt ----- Original Message ----- From: "jay reiter" <jmreiter@adelphia.net> Subject: Yak-List: elevator ballance > --> Yak-List message posted by: "jay reiter" <jmreiter@adelphia.net> > > I installed the Elevator and the balance has a positive bias in other words I would have to drill the balance weight at the elevator tip or apply more paint. Does anyone have any info on the tolerance for the balance? I think it would be a good idea to weigh a control before removing the cover. But when you are knee deep in alligators--- Jay > >

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Lou Dakos" <lou_dakos@bordermail.com.au> When I overhauled my elevator I replaced all bearings with good quality self aligning bearings and the only problem I had was to hold them all straight when attaching elevators they went into bearings with no problems, It would worry me if I had to force them in as this would leave residual stress also my books show self aligning bearings in all positions I think this allows things to move under flight loads and not bend bearing brackets which are not all that large. My elevator is very smooth to operate and has no slack or unwanted play. as all my other controls new self aligning bearings in every one that had one in the book. Subject: Hose and Firesleeve
    From: Don Boardman <dboardm3@twcny.rr.com>
--> Yak-List message posted by: Don Boardman <dboardm3@twcny.rr.com> Hi All, We are into the firewall forward of our M14-PF. A couple of questions. 1) In the engine compartment it looks like we have the option of using standard Aeroquip 303 or the stainless outer braid 601/AE701 hose. The stainless runs about twice the cost. Opinions? 2) What gets firesleeved? I assume all fuel and primer lines. Do all the oil and case venting lines get sleeved as well? 3) If a hose gets firesleeved what does the stainless covered hose buy you? 4) Do the Yaks use an Oil-Air Separator? A good idea to use one? Which to purchase? Thanks in advance. Regards, Don Boardman & Partner, Randy Bowers Super Moose #130 M-14PF 400HP, MT-prop, Aerocet 3500 amphibs, Rome, NY

--> Yak-List message posted by: "jay reiter" <jmreiter@adelphia.net> Thanks Lou you are right but the aircraft has been flying that way since Selby certified it. I think that the alignment tolerance of the outer bearing is allowing it to move freely. The binding was only at installation because the inner race acted like a sprag and locked up. The aircraft flew perfect with no trim difference even though there was a .125 inc miss alignment at rib two and the trim tab I could not get the rib perfect. Jay

--> Yak-List message posted by: cjpilot710@aol.com Back from S&F. I had a good time, even though I got my ass chewed out by a member. Our formations and our participation got one of the best compliments of I have ever heard from an Airboss and up at Leeward, Mr. James himself paid us due notice on our excellent formation. "The Big Head" Mike Filucci, has ordered me to write up the happenings for the newsletters. I'll try but its all running together now. I 'm tired of flying for a while and plan to sleep with my wife tonight. --> Yak-List message posted by: "Lou Dakos" <lou_dakos@bordermail.com.au> Dennis In Australia we went metric in 1966 so it is very easy to buy metric or imperial bearings I just went to an SKF bearing outlet (I know the manager well) and bought them across the counter, at the moment I cannot rember the numbers but all the original bearing are standard sizes some I got for around $7.00 au ($4.50 us?) the very small ones were dearer but I dont think I paid more than $20.00 for a single bearing I can go and look at my old invoices but all I needed was the od id and width, I could also get them from other dealers but skf would have them on the shelf most of the time, if you would like me look into it further for you I would be happy to do so I could have some in my pocket when I get oskosh?
