Geeze, I've been gone for 7 days at the S&F FAST clinic in Bartow and just checked
my email this morning. I have just spent 20 min deleting useless crap from
the list. I even saw a new guy get scared off the list and several unsubscribe
messages. I think I saw about 5 posting about elevator balancing, but otherwise
it was about who was (*)& who, and ramblings from both our liberal and conservative
politicos.
I can give a flying (*)&%$* about who screwed who in their biz dealings, This
list has really degraded to a nauseating level. Can we keep it to talking about
airplanes, safety, care and feeding there of.
Anyway got back safely from the clinic, got to fly a butt load of formation, and
had a great time.

Thanks Lou. I think I'll just find and SKF distributor and go from there.

Most non-friction bearings (ball, roller, etc) are metric sized, even here in

Following up on Frank's posting re: uplocks - an additional set of data that
would be helpful (if not interesting) includes;
- aircraft make/model
- engine type
- time in service
- component time.
This request has been posted by others in the past. It is frustrating at
times to see a request for help and think you have some good advice and then
realize you have no idea if it's a CJ, 52, 55. etc.
Just the facts ma'am.
Right now it's snowing on the magnolias and daffodils in Philly! Open
season for the fair weather set!

Good idea Frank. The pictures and discussion were clear and useful. I
can't
comment on the specifics of the Yak-52 gear but the idea of constructing an
on-line maintenance manual is a good one.
It would be good if you had pictures of the disassembly and reassembly
process
for the uplock mechanisms so that someone could follow along as they do the
same
for their airplanes.
I would like to see this done for the CJ6A as well. It will help people
perform
maintenance properly on their airplanes.

Don, A question. How many hours did you get from your M14-PF before it
needed this FWF maintenance? How hard did you run it? I have 725ttsn on my
M14P (360 hp) in my Sukhoi. Flown mostly @ 100% in Unlimited. With no
indications or thoughts of overhaul in the foreseeable future. I've
wondered about the ruggedness of the PF. I'd be interested in your cost of
overhaul if you would care to share it- off list is fine. If it would cut
your costs you might think about having your vendor make kits for sale for
those of us who would also like to replace hoses. I haven't heard of hose
kits available. Thanks, Rick

Hi All,
We are into the firewall forward of our M14-PF.
A couple of questions.
1) In the engine compartment it looks like we have the option of using
standard Aeroquip 303 or the stainless outer braid 601/AE701 hose. The
stainless runs about twice the cost. Opinions?
2) What gets firesleeved? I assume all fuel and primer lines. Do all the
oil and case venting lines get sleeved as well?
3) If a hose gets firesleeved what does the stainless covered hose buy you?
4) Do the Yaks use an Oil-Air Separator? A good idea to use one? Which to
purchase?
Thanks in advance.

Guys and gals,
I'd like to put an auto pilot into the new CJ and am considering a S-Tec 30. If
anyone has already put an auto pilot into a CJ, Yak or similar aircraft I would
appreciate you contacting me on the list or directly at Yakjock@msn.com
Would also like to talk to anyone who has already used a Blue Mountain EFIS Lite
or a Dynon EFIS.

I would seriously consider the TruTrak digital autopilots. It makes use of
solid-state gyros and accelerometers so I strongly suspect that it will have a
much higher MTBF than S-Tec's products. Also, since they are for experimental
aircraft they have more lattitude to innovate than S-Tec which is catering to
the certified aircraft market.
This is what I had selected for The Project.

Thanks Brian,
Reading your response makes sense. One problem with
the M-14P is the lack of mixture control in situations
like this. I have mixed a bit of autofuel in with the
100LL during the winter months but it is a real pain
on an airport without mogas available. Keeping the
power up is an issue as well when the engine is cool
and once it has fouled the plug, I have found it hard
(if not impossible) to resolve the issue without
removing the plug (no mixture control).
My next thought is to make sure the timing is placed
at the extreme BTDC position for this and other
considerations.

D. Zeman

I'm not much of a "list poster", but I wanted to say a couple things
about the BOW formation clinic I just returned from. This was the first
FAST clinic I have attended.
Mike and Jim did a great job of running the show. We flew our butts
off, had a great time, and were better pilots at the end. I was
thoroughly impressed by the level of professionalism at the briefings,
during the flights and in the debriefings. We had fun, but we did it
the right way.
Thanks to all the guys there for making a newbie feel welcome. I HIGHLY
recommend these clinics to all Yak pilots who wish to get quality
formation training. You'll be glad you attended. I'll wear my FAST
patch with pride.

I believe YAK Parts Central, Stew Cochran, yakpartscentral@goquest.com, or

Brian,
Great auto pilot and one that I have signed up for as a dealer to help
YAK/CJ owners moving forward. They are not very big on discounts but have a
great product. George Coy has been asked to install several in Yak 52TW's
and I am installing one in my IAR-823 4 place Romanian aircraft. As a
dealer, I can offer discounts to YPA members. The retail price for the
Digitrak is $1795 to give you an idea. It can be coupled into your GPS for
direct and crabbing flight. No "S: turning as mist wing levelers. It was
invented by the guy that invented the Century Auto pilot in the 1960's. Got
tired of seeing his design go now where in 30 years. All solid state
construction and few moving parts. Doug Sapp is able to help on getting this
auto pilot also and can install the units.
If Trutrak single axis auto pilot is not for you, The (S-Tek 30-or 50) wing
leveler is the best one on the market but can be pricey.
The other home built stand-by is the NavAid. It works well but is still a
wing leveler that has been installed in many homebuilts over the years.
Seems very reliable. Priced about the same as the Digitrak.
Good luck and hope the information was helpful.
Contact me off line if you have pricing questions.

I feel like I'm reading an inventory system number instead of a type

Barry - some insight:
Hal spent considerable time in Hawaii. The "P" is Hawaiian for Pupu, read
appetizer in English. The "3" simply denotes the variety of Pupus, namely
winged, fined and hoofed. The "E" designates the 7500 watt APU generator
installed on "Hana Hol" to run the wine cooler, the 52" plasma screen, 3-ring
gyro laser designator auto pilot, and the back-vibrator in the co-pilot's
heated 3-axis Bark-O-Lounger seat.
