If it is the same as the one in the engine tool kit for an M14P, which would
not surprise me, you should give Carl Hayes a call as he makes an engine
toolkit from US stock materials. I cannot imagine doing a lot of things with
these engines without the correct tool.

What kind of a tool works for the lock nut on the rocker arm? I am thinking
of grinding down an open end or welding a handle on a socket and grinding
the top off so the screw driver will fit down the center.

Just completed a change of exhaust collector set. If you change one take them off
as an assembly. We had a time getting all the parts in order comparing them
to the assembly it would a problem if you had a pile of parts to compare to.
The lower right is the difficult one there are to outlets on one section and the
carburetor is in the way. Because of the carburetor it was necessary to use
a punch and hammer on the number five gland nut. Most of the other gland nuts
were to tight for the pin wrench and a chain wrench was used for there removal.
Lee had this set coated by some process but I forget which one. The set looks just
like stainless
Hope this helps Jay

I understand the comment about spam can's (although I have one that's pretty cool
sounding, has a red star on the side and has been rumored to have been a "Lend
Lease" type to the ruskies in the forties.), And I suppose I could be talked
into taking the French flag and invasion stripes off my Yak-50 if it made
me unwelcome..........but now you are down on HELICOPTERS TOO???? I need more
advance notice than this. I'll go broke trying to keep the right inventory

Hi gang,
We would like to start posting pilot reports, or PIREPS, on
allredstar.com. If you would like to write up a pirep for your mount,
be it a Yak-50/52/55, CJ, or whatever (well, we really don't promote
spam cans...or helicopters...or the french government), we'd love to
consider it for the site.
Also, we have a *live* (read instant) Chat Room on the site as well. I
actually used it at length for the first time last night and enjoyed it
thoroughly. The Chat room can be accessed through the navigation bar on
the site.
Red Star update:
We have received over 35 registrations, with many more expected
attendees still to register. There's a pretty wide range of birds that
will be showing up...rumors that even an F-5 with a Red Star on the
tail may make an appearance. To see a complete list of the aircraft
attending, and the number
registered, go to
http://www.allredstar.com/Current_ops_RS_Attendance.asp With the war
substantially over (God bless our troops) and oil prices
declining, it looks like we'll have a great turnout...
Cheers,
Barry

No, leave them there. The French need SOME friends.

People who get down on helicopters have never flown them. Or perhaps they are
fixed-wing pukes who HAVE flown them and been horribly shamed in the process.

Walt, you can fly with me any time you want to and I don't care what kind of
flying machine you have. I don't admit it too often but I actually *like* the
C-150.

While at SNF, I was doing air-to-air work for the EAA photo department, and
met Kim Rosenthal, editor of Warbirds magazine. I mentioned that I was
disappointed to see so few articles on the Yaks and Nanchangs in that
magazine, as they are now pretty popular and are well represented at both
SNF and Oshkosh. She said that a survey had been taken and not much
interest had been epxressed in articles on such aircraft, but they were
planning to have one in the June or July issue......

Jay,
I am sure he had it ceramic coated, this process does help extend the life
of the std steel Chinese exhaust. Also according to some, the ceramic
coating of stainless steel causes them to run cooler, resulting in lower
engine compartment temps. I do not know this for a fact, but better heat
distribution is one of the claims of the coating firms. To all those
reading this who are thinking about coating their *existing* exhaust, it has
been my experience that the std steel pipes MUST me new when they are coated
or you are just wasting you money.
The new stainless steel Chinese exhaust systems will be on the market soon
and will solve all the problems which we have been having with the existing
std steel system rusting out.
Always Yakin,
doug sapp

Blitz,
I don't know what the slip joint type system is selling for, but I think the
new Chinese system will sell for about 1700.00. But I will not know for
sure until we get them in and discover what the ocean frt., customs, import
duty, etc, etc. will be. The $1700 number is just a guess. I am also
stocking the stainless end pipes as they are the ones which always go bad
first on the std steel system.
See you at Red Star??
Best,
Doug

Janet,
I also met Kim who told me the same story. Her car was in the parking
lot but I proposed that she join me on the hop back to Bartow, where we
would give her a ride to the WB hotel and she could have gotten a ride
back to LAL in the morning.
She no-showed, perhaps it was my wicked grin in anticipation of a "demo"
flight to a newby. But then it could have been the gray hair...

Walt,
You seem to be 180 degrees out-of-phase with the trends. Perhaps a P-40
Flying Tiger scheme on your Yak-50???? Maybe a Spitfire Malcom hood
canopy?
Better yet...how about a WW-II Vichy France paint scheme? That should
piss off everybody, especially the french.

I will be off line for a while. Will be leaving tomorrow to go welcome our
new granddaughter into the world. I may or may not get to a computer and
e-mail, but there are other more important things in life. Sorry if you feel
left out. ;-)
Should be back here after the first.
Take care
