My neighbor switched from the Phillips to the 120 in his > T6 and said his oil consumption went down dramatically. The California Department of Forestry switched from Aeroshell 120 to Phillips 25W60 for their fleet of fire attack aircraft and saw a reduction in engine failures and a reduction in oil consumption. So what does this mean? It means that both oils will work just fine in your engine. I prefer 25W60 because it flows better when cold and I get oil to all of the bearings faster after start than I do with 120. This might not be an issue if you have a preoiler. OTOH, if you are not religious about changing your oil stick with 120. The viscosity stabilizers that give 25W60 its 60-weight rating when hot start to break down over time and you eventually end up with only 25W oil. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201 brian@lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 - voice +1.360.838.9669 - fax

The Chinese periodic maintenance manual I have lists oil change at 100 hour intervals but I seem to be missing the 25 hour interval for the engine. (Does anyone have a copy of page 36 of the periodic maintenance manual I could have?) I used a 50 hour interval for oil changes without any ill effects. > 17 quart oil changes add up. --> Yak-List message posted by: Barry Hancock <radialpower@cox.net> Hi gang, I've just gone through the list of registrations for Red Star....over 40 now! Thought you might want to know the diversity of aircraft that are slated to be there... Props: Yak 9/11/18T/50/52/55 CJ6A Interavia I-3 Me 108 Me 109 Su 26 Jets: L-29 L-29 Super Delphin L-39C L-39ZA MiG 17 MiG 21 ....AND, we are making no promises, but there is an attempt being made to have some current military hardware wearing the Red Star to show up. It will be dependent on WX (weather), MX (maintenance) and availability, but we might be in for a treat or two... If you are planning to attend and still have not registered, please take the time to do so know as final planning is underway and accurate head counts are important... http://www.allredstar.com/Current_ops_RS_register.asp We should also probably remind people of the Red Star Formation Challenge...your chance to show off your stick & rudder skills and see how you stack up. If you're interested here's the event description...should be a lot of fun! http://www.allredstar.com/Current_ops_RS_Formation_Challenge.asp If you'd like to participate, or have a team together, email me directly. --> Yak-List message posted by: Barry Hancock <radialpower@cox.net> Just got off the phone with Eddie Andreini. Eddie is a long time airshow pilot who flies both a Yak-9 and a Stearman. He is excited about the event and renewing his Formation qualifications in "Barbarosa" http://www.eddieandreiniairshows.com/images/yak3.jpg Additionally, he is willing to give a talk on airshow flying during the event...he is an ACE evaluator. At this point, it looks like we have at least 3 Yak fighters that will be there and flying on a regular basis. For some reason, I feel like a 5 year old at Disneyland....
