John,
Put it on the watch list. BTW, there is a strengthened nose case with
bigger bearing. The Sukhoi guys use it on the
400hp engine. See the UK web sites.

Yaksters;
I have two original Russian seat pack parachutes for sale. Never been
used either :) They are suitable for the YAK-52 and maybe some others.
$450 each. If anyone's interested email to yak52driver@earthlink.net
Walt;
XF-11 is correct.
There's a crew occupying one of the hangers here at Cal City that is
responsible for reproducing the debris field of the Hughes crash for an
upcoming documentary film by Warner-Brothers. They have pictures of the
plane and it looks like the same plane but with counter-rotating props.
They called it the Hughes Racer.

Not the Hughe's racer. That was the H1 of approx. 1935, Single engine
powered by a P&W R1535, Twin Wasp Jr. of 825HP. Original hangs in the
Smithsonian and a full scale EXACT replica has just recently been
completed by a Mr. Jim Wright of Cottage Grove, Oregon. The aircraft
shown is a prototype of a Hughe's late WW2 fighter design powered by two
P&W R4360's (approx. 3500 HP each). I can't recall the Hughe's
designation but believe the military designation was XF11 though I may
be wrong there. The photo would be from 1946. Early in the test flight
program one of the reversible propellors (left engine I think) went to
uncommanded reverse and made the aircraft unflyable. Howard Hughe's was
severely injured in the crash and probably never fully recovered from
it.

YPA Board Members,
We have nominations for the three YPA Officer positions:
President, Drew Blahnick (nominated by Skip Slyfield)
Vice President, Dee Grimm (nominated by Don Andrews)
Secretary/Treasurer, Jim Esposito (nominated by Drew Blahnick)
We are very fortunate to have these very talented candidates prepared to step
forward and take responsibility for our organization.
There follows a brief biography furnished by each of these gentlemen for you
review.
We will conduct the election via email so please respond with your
affirmation, abstention, or no vote. Also, since I will be gathering the vote for
the
record, please respond with a full explanation of your choice, i.e.: "I vote in
favor of Drew Blanick for President, Dee Grimm for Vice President, and Jim
Esposito for Secretary/Treasurer" as opposed to "I vote for/against them all."

Kevin,
That was a short called Friendly Bandits, I have lost my copy but I am sure
others remain. My CJ5 / Yak 18 was shown a few times and they even granted
me the chance to be interviewed, which after 3 takes they sighed and
muttered something about mic fright, flying flower farmers, then folded up
their gear while shaking their collective heads. Via something short of
magic, they somehow made my incoreherent babbling sound somewhat
understandable in the final product. The film was split 50/50 between the
jets and the Yaks. It was good fun.
Everyone should try to make the Oliver gathering this year, Walter, Paul,
and crew will I am sure make it a memorable gathering.
Always yakin,

Not sure about a documentary, but there's a "Hollywood" movie in the final
planning stages about Hughes' flying called The Aviator. I have some
buddies who've been contacted to possibly fly Hugh's former Sikorsky (S-41 I
believe) for the movie. These guys are some of the few if not only ones in
the country typed in the plane, which is in a hanger in Angleton, Texas.
Supposed to have notable actor types like Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth
Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, etc. and directed by Martin Scorsese.
Bryan Jones
Yak/CJ in the future maybe, RV-8 now

*Hope y'all haven't been slammed with multiple copies of this email. have
had a little problem getting the email to be accepted by the "list".
There's a documentary film coming out soon about the aviation exploits of
Howard
Hughs and this racer.
Here's the link to the picture.

Fellow Yakers,
I apologize for the confusion over the YPA officer vote. The email was
supposed to go only to the YPA Board of Directors. Per our by-laws, the YPA's BOD
nominates and votes for the officer positions. The Board of Directors are
elected by all the members of the YPA but not the officers.
On the positive side, the email lets those of you who do not know the
nominees gain some familiarity with the new officers.

Sorry to have missed all who made it to NE. Got a low wound up around the Twin
Cities and I spent 3 of the four days "down here wishing I was up there" vs.
the other way around.
I WILL get to MTW (although most likely in a UC-43 and not the Yak 50) We can
use it as the squadron "hack".
