Fellow Yak'rs - Press the the start button on my 52 and nothing happens. Can
anyone suggest what to troubleshoot? There is plenty of air in the system and
it turns over fine if I manually over-ride the solenoid. I do not hear any
noises such as the shower of sparks box might emit. It acts like no power is
reaching the start button. Any ideas before I start tearing into it. I know the
solenoid is expensive and don't relish changing it. I'd like to fix this before
MTW/OSH (like tomorrow).

John,
If you turn the prop it will fire.
Sometimes the stuck between two cylinders which causes air to not fill the
cylinders.
You can turn the prop from the cockpit by reaching with your left foot. Near
the firewall on the left side inside the cockpit is a value that has a
silver lip or ear pointing to the right. If you push that device UP it will
rotate the prop. The aircraft will fire then.
I don't have all the technical wording of what the device is but it works
every time when the prop won't move during start.
Hope that helps but place the brakes on and move the prop also will start
your plane. Just more time involved.
Fly Safe,

John,
This is not meant to sound condescending, but is the switch in the rear
cockpit just above the START button, with the metal "ears" on each side, in
the UP position? Have you tried starting the airplane from the rear
cockpit? If you do, the same switch must be in the DOWN position, giving
starting control to the rear cockpit.

Before you try moving the prop by hand or by manual engagement of the air
start valve with your foot, if the air start valve/solenoid doesn't go "pop"
when you push the button, it's an electrical problem. Again, check the
position of the switch in the rear cockpit first. Then start with the
battery and make sure you have 24 volts on the switched electrical buss on
the top of the generator and ignition switches inside the inspection panel
on the right side of the airplane.

This will be my first trip to MTW/OSH with my CJ. Last time to OSH with my
Lancair 320, my tiedowns consisted of three galvanized spikes and some nylon
cord. What do you OSH-soil conditions-CJ-tiedown-wise folks recommend?
Thanks, Blitz

Yaksters,
Evening! Well, I have had my Yak for 2 weeks now. Pull the controls surfaces
off day 1 and they should be done next week. Day 2 started to strip the
aircraft and almost done. The paint just runs off the aircraft. The Russians
did not use any primor. lol. Anyway, decided to stay with the orig paint
scheme, except for the base white, I am goin to use yellow. A friend on the
field just joined the Lima, Lima boys in his T-34 and my paint guy over
estimated the yellow base by almost 3 gals. Lets just say I am getting a
super deal on paint and labor. He does an excellent job. So, my question to
the group is are there any decals to be purchased. I took alot of photos and
probably go with that, but would rather have either paint decals or self
adhesive.
Appreciate any help,
Mark Morgan, 502GC

Once again I must ask for the assistance of the gurus of the yak community. I
was going over my paperwork from the original purchase of my 52 and noticed that
the date of manufacture for the fuselage is 1984 while the D. O. M. for the
wings is 1993. What if anything are the implications of this and is this a 7
or 5 G wing? I was told this is a light wing but I was under the impression
that anything after 1989 had the beefed up wing incorporated from the factory.
Any insight would be appreciated.
