Jerry;
Someone I know just informed me that his buddy died spinning a Pitts. He
never came out of the spin. What's your recommendation on spinning the
supposedly "spinnable" Pitts?

Sorry, haven't heard anything about dates. Could well be on the Yak Pilots
web site. They have a list of all functions this year.

I think the date is Sept. 26-27-28. At least that's what I have on my
calendar.

I'm no "spin expert" but I thought that it was pretty common knowledge that
if you're spinning and you can't stop the spin by the time you reach your
floor, you jump. That's what we wear 'chutes for.

My neigbor here (and my acro instructor) spins his Pitts S2C all the time,
standard upright spins mind you and I've never seen him do more than 3
rotations. Its part of his intermiediate routine. Last year he placed 10th
in the country in the intermediate class. Now that I think of it, I beleive
spins are a mandatory manuver in the intermediate class.

Up to 2 turns though, no more than two turns for competition. Check Aresti
blue book. Yes, Basic (now Primary) to Unlimited you MUST start the spin
properly and end on the proper heading for any spin, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, and
2.0 turns, if you want to score well. Now my opinion, (yes they are like
anal orifi, every one has one.) With literally hundreds of thousands of
spins done just by IAC competitors and their flight instructors here in the
US of A for sanctioned contests and the practice in readiness for
competition each year, there MUST be a heck of a lot of people that are
doing and teaching it "Right". And a relatively very small group that have
not. A good example: FACT, The WAC just concluded, and what?, almost 50
competitors and 4 flights each all laced with spins/snaps, inside/outside,
upright/inverted. 1000's done in Lakeland alone in a week and all survived.
Somebody must be doing something right. Hallelujah
Respectfully, Rick
