From: cjpilot710@aol.com Subject: Ref July issue Warbirds Dear Editor, A correction is needed in Budd Davisson's article. Jim Goolsby is not nor has been President of the Yak Pilots Association. That sometimes thankless job was in the very capable hands of Mike Filucci at that time, although I was responsible for Bushi Cheng's visit. Interesting note, we were able to raise the donated funds for the visit in just 10 days. --> Yak-List message posted by: D Zeman <curious_wings@yahoo.com> Correction to Jim Goolsby article... Not all M-14Ps are Romanian built. The wording is rather misleading; "...Romanian-built, Russian designed". D. Zeman __________________________________

My M-14p came from them. I personally don't know how to get or where to get a Russian built engine. When I wrote the article, I was speaking from my experience, but you are correct. Jim Wickersham of Shadetree Aviation in Carson City, NV, still has NOS (new, old-stock) Russian-built M-14Ps. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201 brian@lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 - voice +1.360.838.9669 - fax GMT-4

--> Yak-List message posted by: "jay reiter" <jmreiter@adelphia.net> Does the housai really get 2350 rpm or are the governors set to 2150 for reduced power in China. We have checked everything except the tach. We are trying to borrow an optical tach to eliminate the tach.

If you use an optical tach checker don't forget that the prop is geared to turn more slowly than the crank. -- Brian Lloyd 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201 brian@lloyd.com St. Thomas, VI 00802 +1.340.998.9447 - voice +1.360.838.9669 - fax GMT-4

--> Yak-List message posted by: D Zeman <curious_wings@yahoo.com> Jim, I am curious, how does your serial number on your M-a4P begin? My understanding is that Russian engines begin with K(Ya), where (Ya) is a "backwards" R; Romanian with a RA. It may be my circles, but I never ran into a Romanian engine before 1999-2000. D. Zeman D, Sam Sax & I purchased two engines together in August 1997. Our understanding was these were the last of a production batch. My engine's S/N is RA9642002. Sam's is just one number different. This engine was purchased from Aerostar S.A. in Bacau, Romania and we used AeroThrust Corp. as our purchasing agent. At 431 hours, she started making metal, which led us to find that the factory had put a scrapper ring (instead of an oil ring), in the oil land of #3 piston. This caused removing all 9 cylinders for inspection and replacing all rings and gaskets. I was told later but I can not verify this, that this batch of M-14p engines were Aerostar's first production run. My letters to Aerostar were never answered.
