Greetings,
I have a few problems I need advice on.
1) My snot bottle is not snotting. For awhile, I would drain the bottle and would
get the "wooosh" blast of water, oil and air but lately, I have been getting
either very little pressure or none. I assume it is clogged. What do I need
to do to fix this problem? Can the snot bottle be cleaned out?
2) How does one balance the main gear tires? Mine are both new and vibrate the
plane on takeoff and landing.
I have a strange situation with this plane. The past owner switched sides with
the main landing gear and I believe this may be the root of the problem due to
different geometry of the wheels. Anybody else try this? I will switch the
gear back to original when I get jacks.
3) My slave compass will not slave. Where would I start my trouble shooting?
The compass in the slave mode has been off by 90 degrees since I got this plane
3 months ago. I works fine when adjusted and used out of the slave mode. I have
tried turning the adjustment knob on the device behind the rear cockpit to
no avail. It seems this adjustment has made no difference.
4) My prop has been splattering oil on the iris ring even after I tighten the
oil supply tube in the center of the hub, put in new seals and even had the piston
bore machined to true up and remove groves made from debris in the hub.
What to do next? This is my second Yak and the first didn't leak nearly as much.
So, the amount of leakage is above normal in my experience.
Thanks
Phil Salter

Dee,
Great news. We can sort things out when we get together.

Kong,
Sorry to hear the entire Colorado squadron can't make it. We'll see you
there.

What do I need to do to fix this problem? Can the snot bottle be cleaned
out?
It sounds like your not holding airpressure behind the bottle, in other
words, when you shut down, that pressure that causes the "Swoosh" is
escaping to atmosphere. BTW, your inflight (in other words engine running)
airpressure readings are normal and not running low right? Start simple,
from the source (compressor line fitting) check your lines and fittings, the
nut holding the line to the bottle may have untorqued or the needle valve is
gummed up at the bottle. I have removed and completely reconditioned my
bottles, easy to do and takes no time. I also found my bottle wheel-handle
(used to open the valve) spring was worn out (this spring puts tension on
the wheel, keeping it from vibrating open inflight), you can find strong
replacements at a hardware store.

Hi Jay,
Thanks for your interest in the JL-2 series propellers. Yes they work with the
CJ governor. The prop diameter is 98 inches.
The weight of the JL-2A is 120lbs including the spinner and backing plate. The
original 2-blade is 92lbs.
The prop sells for $9500.00 USD including the spinner and backing plate. aprox
60day dellivery.

Gang,
A number of weeks ago I asked how many people wanted an Acro box for MTW.
One person said they like one but would be only using it this coming Saturday
and Sunday. At the time I wasn't planning on being there and sense its in my
name and I'm suppose to control it, I didn't see the need to go after it. Time
passed. Yesterday Mike Filucci called me asking if we got approval. Of
course we hadn't because I hadn't. I rushed out the application and FAX it to
the
FSDO in MKE. They got back to me today and said they needed a letter from the
airport manger with his OK. I tracked him down but he was leaving town
within the hour and would not be back until Monday next.
No approval, no box.
I apologize for not following though with this in a timely manner.

The JL-2 series of propellers are new manufacture in China.
JL2 Will fit the spline shaft of the Chinese HS6K 400 HP. Fantastic
performance.
JL2-A Will fit the spline shaft of the HS6A, however we are still
experimenting with this configuration.
JL2-A Will also fit the spline shaft of the Russian M14B,
JL2-B Is configured to fit the standard M14P shaft. More fantastic
performance.
We are presently flying all three propellers on three different CJ6A,S.
We plan to be at MTW and OSH 27/07 for demos.

Hi Joe,,Gary Gabbard here, from Las Vegas, N22YK, I have a M14P in my CJ,,The
JL2-B sounds interesting, altho the standard 2 bladed Russian Prop, gives great
performance,,I would consider installing a metal 3 bladed prop, depending on
weight difference, Performance, and Price Range. If you could, when you have
time send me some of your performance figures to compare with my own
performance figures, it would be appreciated. Also give me an idea about
pricing and availability of the JL2-B. Also how many hrs. you may have operated
the prop on the M14P,,also have you any testing, or harmonic vibration figures
on the installation? Or have the Russians been running the prop on the M14P
without any adverse problems? Thanks Joe, will be waiting with interest on your
reply.....Thank You...Gary Gabbard.
P.S. for interest, my rate of climb with full take off power out of Las Vegas
( Field Elevation is 2230 ft.) on a 95 Degree day with full tanks, one pilot, 2
Parachutes, and the usual assorted junk in the baggage bin that we all carry,
is a sustained climb of 2200 ft per minute, at 90 MPH indicated,,,this is not a
zoom climb, it is a stabilized climb at 90 MPH. Once again this is with full
take off power, not a power reduction,,did this just for testing
purposes...Have not really noticed any increase in cruise airspeed when I did
the engine change....all of the performance benifits have come in the take off
distance and the rate of climb.
