Hey Jim, thanks for opening up that anthill! It's a good
opportunity to relate my 8 years of CJ experience with this
issue. Finally I have a fairly even burn. The $50 Cessna
vent is still in the parts bin, the header tank was not
modified, and my cross feed system has been disabled.
The answer to my problem: TRIM and RIG. Yep, corrected the
level on the slip-skid balls and then slowly worked the
fixed tabs over several test flights to where it flys hands
off on a heading, burns fairly even and Goes Faster, which
was the reason why I worked on getting a good rig, the even
fuel burn is an added bonus.
