--> Yak-List message posted by: MFilucci@aol.com YPA Transition Drew Blahnick, the new Yak Pilots Association President has presented his thoughts on his vision of the future of the YPA. For those of you who were not at Oshkosh this year to hear Drew's presentation or my introductory comments, I would like to provide you with my input for your consideration. Almost four years ago, when we first established the Yak Pilots Association, we were a small organization of some 157 members. We started building the association, establishing our charter as a nonprofit, educational organization. To that end we began publishing a newsletter, creating a website, developing training programs, and sponsoring fly-in/clinics all across the country. We sponsored seven such fly-ins this year and we continue to develop new training programs and refine existing programs. We also grew the organization as we recruited more and more members. Our membership, now exceeding 300 members, has become more and more diverse as time has passed. The majority of our members are Yak and CJ drivers but we also have L-39 drivers, L-29 drivers, SF-260 drivers, Glasair drivers, Swift drivers, Pitts drivers, Mig drivers, Skybolt drivers, Vultee BT-13 drivers, Wilga drivers, Chipmunk drivers, T-34 drivers, Cessna drivers, RV-8 drivers, and this week a T-33 driver signed up. We have long since passed the point where one person or even a small staff can adequately serve the needs of our members. Drew and I have talked at great length about the future of the YPA. In all our discussions the primary consideration has always been to continue to grow in such a way as to provide the best for all our members. Drew has shaped a plan to "regionalize" the Association so as to provide a geographical structure to aid in the organization and execution of the training programs and provide the resources we all need on a more local level. Regionalization decentralizes our organization and makes it more responsive to our members. If we are to continue to sponsor fly-in/clinics on the scale that we did this year, we need to adapt a regional approach so that the regional representatives can assume responsibility for the planning and logistics of these get-togethers. The regional approach also provides easier access to other resources, such as instructors and Check Pilots. There has been some discussion of a name change for our organization and, in fact, we offered up a contest in the last newsletter. I have heard comments/complaints from warbird drivers over the years about the contradiction between how diverse and inclusive we are and the fact that our name, Yak Pilots Association, does not really reflect that diversity. Hence the contest for a name change. In the end, when the ballots have been counted, we may still retain the same name but I am hopeful that we can adopt something more representative of our group of stalwart warbird drivers. Several names have been floated so far; the most popular seems to be Red Star AOA (Aircraft Owners Association). Ballots will go out sometime in the weeks ahead so you can provide your input. With your help and participation we have built a solid foundation for our Association over the last few years. Drew is a very talented and energetic leader with a good grasp on your needs and the future development of our Association. He will need your continued participation and support to develop our organization in the years to come. I fully endorse his efforts and stand ready to provide whatever support Drew and you, our members, need. Regards, Mike

You are still listed in the database as a CJ driver (but I just updated the database sans your new N number). You've never scared me or made me mad. I did come close to being scared when I saw how close we were to hitting that sign while being marshalled at OSH in your Staggerwing, though.

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Doug" <rvfltd@televar.com> Anyone out there know how I can find Kevin (no last name), He just bought a Yak 52 from Jim Beecham in Atlanta GA. I believe he told me he was with Gibson Air who he said built T-28's. Can anyone put all these pieces together and come up with a phone number? Any help would be appreciated. Always yakin, Doug Sapp
