Yesterday's post was the first time I actually saw the
proposed name change. Yes I missed Drew's presentation
because it was Not in Oshkosh but over in Manitowoc, late
into the week after Oshkosh started.
I would hate to see this name change turn into another
Cal-i-Pornia Governor's election so I suggest keeping change
to a minimum. Change just enough to convey the widening of
scope: "Red Star Pilot's Association" in place of "Yak
Pilot's Association". Hell, I still have Yak Pilot's CLUB"
patches on some of my Genuine NOMEX flight suits and now I
have to buy a new set of patches for the 5 suits I keep for
GIBs.

I like it Craig. It's even better than Redstar AoA. You have my vote on
that one.

p.s I too have YPC patches on my genuine NOMEX flight suits.

Plus, not all pilots of Redstar aircraft are necessarily owners (AoA). More
appropriate to use "Pilots Association" versus "Aircraft Owners
Association". And we don't want to copy AOPA with Redstar Aircraft Owners
and Pilots Association or RAOPA (yuk!)

"Redstar" as one word is smart and it does sound better and I
can't wait for the new patch design.
Redstar Pilot Association (RPA) does sound and look good.
You have my vote for that name.

So the insurance company thinks it can weasel out of paying for hail damage
if your medical is expired? Sounds like a fine organization to do business
with.
As for declining coverage, did you mean denying a claim? Insurance
companies usually don't ask too many questions when you get the policy
because that would mean returning the check. They check up on you (rightly)
on the statements concerning your experience and qualifications before the
write a check. This helps keep rates low for honest pilots by letting the
200 hour guys who claim to have 1005 hours pay into the insurance fund but
not collect.
Questioning the status of your medical or condition inspection though seems
like an unwarranted snooping since neither would have any effect on the
falling of hail or the damage to the plane.

A well run company will spread the cost of losses among its policyholders as
well as the cost of building a reasonable reserve to cover exceptional
losses. The lower our losses over time, the lower our costs. Conversely,
if losses increase the companies should charge more, not exit the market.
We are all in this together.
>
> Secondly, it is up to each of us to keep ourselves insurable. If one's
medical, BFR, aircraft annual or other flight requirement is not current it
is probable that the company will decline coverage. I'm discussing some
light hail damage with the insurance company. The first thing they wanted
to look at was my and the airplane's currency.

Enough about Nomex! The formation rules only make good common sense. Flying
close has certain hazards, as we have seen at OSH in bad weather and rain.
In ten years of racing sports cars, S.C.C.A, TransAm, and IMSA there was no
fear of broken bones; however, FIRE was always present.
With two onboard Halon bottles, one directed on the engine and one on the
driver with manual and impact switches I was still nervous. We had to have a
full face DOT approved helmet, Nomex head-neck cover, three layer drivers suit,
gloves, socks, and shoes. Talk about hot. Still this only gave the driver
45-60 seconds of protection. So wear your flight suit with all cotton tee shirt,
socks, leather boots, and cotton underwear.
Anyone who has spent time in a hospital E.R. or the burn center at Ft. Sam
Houston, will never complain about personal protection during formation flying.
Enjoy, but fly safely.

Hi,
A friend of mine is interested in buying a plane that's in Lithuania. He
is concerned about how much the duty he'll have to pay is. Does anyone have
any idea on this? The plane is about $90,000 Euro.
Thanks,
Wes

Read your policy carefully, they usually have a clause that
states they don't have to pay if you broke a FAR. Of course
it's real hard to bust a plane without busting a FAR. Go
figure.
Have fun,
Roy

I think, and I am not sure so tax people chip in. If it is imported to an
importer in one state at cost... The tax is due at import. Then if that
company sells it at fair market value to a person in another state then no
tax is due.

NOW THIS IS NOT A SERIOUS PROPOSAL for those who have difficulty telling the
difference between reality and fantasy. How about this for a name :-
S uper
H eroes
I n
T ight
E mergency
S uits
Then there could be a special wing for single seat aircraft called the
little SHITES.
Anyone remember the line from the Battle of Britain where the new pilot gets
a roasting from the CO
"Fledgling to Shite Hawk in one easy lesson".
