Them Real warbird guys are always saying we are CRAP anyway. I have heard my CJ called both a Russian "Piece of CRAP" as well as a Chinese Piece of CRAP. Since my aircraft has a Yak nose and CJ airframe with crappy paint, maybe it fits. Goes like CRAP, try and catch me and all you'll get is oil splatter and propwash off my crappy airplane. But hey, CRAP could be confusing. Folks may wonder what the acronym really stands for: California Recalcitrant Airline Pilots ? But you did agree in writing on the application for insurance that you possess a valid medical and BFR and have the qualifications you said you had when you filled the application out. This was the basis for evaluation of the risk - although it is a poor way to evaluate the risk, it's really all we've got. You did fill out an appliaction didn't you? It's the basis of your contract. . . .. and the judge, both attorneys and the jury will certainly get a copy . . . . The first step of any claim is what I call "Show and Tell". This includes proof that you are the legal registered owner and have "Insurable Interest". Not a bad idea to keep copies of all your poop. Kermel --> Yak-List message posted by: "Stuart Mackereth" Hi all I was at an airshow at a local airbase today (Swartkops) - and lo and behold - I found an airwear stall with dozens of Kermel and Nomex suits hanging up for sale. Since I had just ordered 2 Kermal suits, I immediately went over to chat to them - and ended up trying on both for comparison - much to the embaressment of my wife and kids :-) who finally disappeard as crowds grew.. who can stop us, eh? C.R.A.P. my ass..! They feel good. In fact, they feel great! Very, very soft in comparison to Nomex. How they feel after sitting for 30 min in the baking sun at a holding point waiting for takeoff approval will be the clincher :-) Apparantly the story goes that the kermel suits are out of favour in the US due to the "French" connection - but who knows. Will keep you informed. Regards Stuart About-to-be-a-yak-driver-but-not-yet-so-not-caught-up-with-the-RPA-YPA-d ebate-:-) .. Kermel --> Yak-List message posted by: "Stuart Mackereth" --> Thanks - After much reading, I've decided to go with Kermel and guinea-pig it - hopefully will never have to 'test' it. I will at least will give some feedback to y'all on whether it is more or less comfortable in heat than Nomex. Priced about the same as new Nomex (not e-bay). http://www.airwear.co.za/productpage_fireresistant.php Here's some interesting comments from their web site: "As a minimum protection with a closed cockpit, avgas or jet fuel driven aircraft/helicopter, we recommend to wear a suit made in 100% cotton. The best protection is a fire resistant Kermel or Nomex suit. With the correct fabric weight, a suit of this type will give excellent protection in the event of a flash fire or to a person having to run through a fire. "Over the years, we at Airwear, have found that a 230gr/m (~7 oz) is the most effective fabric thickness to use. It offers very good fire protection, retains a reasonable amount of body heat in winter and is very acceptable in summer. "Incidently cotton socks or at least a high cotton content pair of socks and leather shoes, preferably boot types, are of utmost importance. Sneakers are a definite no-no."
