When the mag switch is selected as "1" doesn't that mean that Mag 1 is
not grounded? That way it can run, right? In other words the mag
selected is the only one not grounded and 1+2 has them both
"ungrounded". Therefore when selector is placed on "1" the p-lead on #1
should not be grounded and have no continuity with ground (rather than 0
ohms). I think.

Yes, you are absolutely right.

What manner of torture-the-student is intended by the ignition toggle
switch in the rear seat? Just to see if they'll say something when they
don't get a mag drop, or to surprise them when turning the mags to 0
doesn't shut down the airplane?

Who out there knows where I can find the insignia markings for the CJ. Is
any one making them in vinyl?
Best,

Correct.
And also since the p-lead and the points are in parallel with the primary winding
in the mag you can't measure whether the points or the mag switch are open
or closed with an ohmmeter. It will show dead short. You need a mag timing light.
You can also disconnect the p-lead from the mag and then use an ohmmeter
on the p-lead wiring and mag switches.

Probably to prevent the student from inadvertantly shutting down the engine at
an inopportune moment, like on short final. You would be amazed at things a student
will do.

If we are really going to get a bunch of "handles" machined for the CJs, I
have a suggestion....=0D
=0D
Lets get a "flap shaped" handle to replace the flap handle knob. Having the
gear and flap handle the same can/has only caused trouble. With all the
recent rash of gear mishaps we have had, any act like this could only serve
us well in front of the jury (i.e. insurance underwriters).=0D

Jim Selby has a friend who has made vinyl star & bars. The star has the
proper Chinese character in the center. They're excellent. Had a set put on the
under side of my wings last winter. Can't remember the cost, but it was
reasonable. ...Blitz

Jeff
I agree about shapes. The cost would be how many are made as machine
setup is the time eater. What has me scared is radium from my hands or
gloves that gets into my lungs. Low doses touching lung for a long time
could be very bad. Paint is a good short term but it will wear with time and
it only takes the tiniest amount radium to make you a clinical study.

But if you disconnect the P-Lead from the mag then you could check it with
an OHM meter.
