Roger,
My list includes many mods that are already done on the airplane. I agree this
is already a great airplane but why not add a few things that might make it better.
The list is also not necessarily things that I would do. They were just
ideas. I have had some good feedback and there is certainly a consensus among
owners about what they would like to see and what should not be changed i.e. air
for start and brakes, control surfaces. Most people would like a three bladed
prop and some bag space for the trips to the All Red Star fly-in and the EAA
shows.
What would have happened if North American would have stopped with the A-model
Mustang? They took a great airplane and made it better!!
Can't a boy dream??
See ya,
Tim

Subject: | mags vs. mixture cutoff |

What are the arguments for using the fuel cutoff vs. using the mags to
shut down a radial engine?
When I first got my CJ I picked up a copy of the Radial Engine Handbook
and I recall that it said to use the mags but I don't recall the
specifics; I've been using the mags ever since.
Seeing a bit of black smoke puffing at 600rpm, which I take to mean that
it's a bit rich at idle. Or it could just be the 3,000' density altitude
of August in Texas. Anybody have a rule of thumb for deciding when to
adjust the idle mixture?
This all came up in a discussion of what the momentary rpm rise was when I
shut down the engine with the mixture... a B-25 guy suggested that more
than 100 rpm or so meant that I was probably running too rich at idle.
