Too far north for "late next year" plus we need to be as far from any Class
B airspace as humanly possible.

Drew,
What distance did people travel to get to the West coast fly in ? My thought
is that it should be somewhere like western PA as this would be central for
the entire NE. There are already events in the Florida area. Thoughts ?

The only event in the FL area is S&F, I would say that AL or GA would be
more centalized, PA is 900 miles for me.

Yakers,
First, or second week in Sept, 2004. I believe everyone can agree that the
weather is generally prefect on this half of the country during that time
period. Gatlinburg, Tenn? Plenty for spouses to do, good at handling
conventions, plenty of open airspace. Pretty much in the middle of the "east
of the Mississippi" quadrant. I know its not close to everybody, but times a
wasting. Build it and they will come? What'a ya think?
Or we can play the lottery. Go to the FAA registry, and what ever state in
the east has the most Red Star aircraft, wins? How bout that method, no body
to aurge with that way :)

As the east coast is so large how about a NE and a SE ?
Ernie that big jet of yours should get you 900 miles PDQ :)

Folks,
I've watched the repeated lists on what appears to be a desire for a) an
Association National Red Star Convention, or b) a regional expansion of the
ARS event in to multiple locations (i.e East/Central).
I've thought about this for some time working on this one. I would like to
comment about it in a somewhat lengthy e-mail that addresses location
concerns, the priorities I believe such an event should have, man hours,
sponsors, , etc.
Let me post this letter this weekend, it will also contain member database
information based on the regions as they are currently depicted on
www.yakpilots.org
I can say now, what this event would need, if it is to be something like
ARS, is a member who is either single, retired or a business owner who has
detached himself/herself from the daily operation of his/her business and
has a very strong commitment to see this event materialize and the
organizational can do to see it through. We have already done a lot of the
leg work here, or corrected all the wasted efforts of the "first time
around" with media, sponsors, documentation, airspace plan and FAA frequency
planning, awards and merchandise design/production, catering, schedules,
site survey checklists, FBO accounting, registration, ect. But although we
won't reinvent the wheel, it's still a wheel needing replication.
I will send the e-mail this weekend, hope it helps in some way, I support an
Association National Convention. The e-mail will also explore a short term
achievable alternative to the need/desire for such an event.
