Following Craig Payne's recent legitimate interest, the active overhaul
facilities specialized in Yaks fall into three categories.
* Some are authorized to perform overhauls of the Yak-52 (or other light
Yaks) by the manufacturer,
i.e. Yakovlev Design Bureau, and as such have received official Yakovlev
overhaul documentation. As of today, there are Shakhty aircraft repair
factory (ShARZ) - the head organization since early 80-s, Tashkent
(Uzbekistan) and Ivanovo (Russia) plants. On the M-14P engine side, there is
again Shakhty and VMZ Design Bureau (Voronezh) itself.
** Some are certified to overhaul the Yak-52 by their respective Aviation
Authorities, yet may not have an authorization from relevant Design Bureaus.
*** There may certainly be a third category, which do not have
authorizations neither from Designers, nor from their AA's.
The issue is clearly one of control of the process and of its results from
the manufacturer and/or AA's. Shakhty is subject to both. The factory
keeps track of all overhauls of the airframes and the engines including the
bulletins applied, since at least early eighties.
Apart from the Yak-52, Shakhty overhauls Yak-18T, Antonov-2 and Yak-50.
Additional info on our Web site
http://www.aero-concept.com/Pages/Shakhty.html (additions shortly), and on
the Shakhty factory web site http://www.sharz.ru/index_eng.shtml.

Yes, Rutan was the person who discovered that Cessna and Piper had been
building their planes backwards.

Yaksters,
I just read an article that said we should always drain the intake tubes if we
have not run the engine for more than a day. The article was written for the
M14P engine. I am running the Housai 285 on my CJ and have been using the 7 day
rule, i.e., draining the intake tubes and spark plugs if not run in 7 days
(never had to do this yet since flown every week). Of course, blades are always
pulled through before starting regardless of time to check for hydraulic lock.
My question is should I follow the 1 day rule or stick with the 7 day rule??
thanks,
Dave

For peace of mind and a whole lot less trouble and mess, why not install and
intake drain kit like most folks install on the M14P. Not very difficult
and certainly worth while.

Well, he did manage to build an airplane that would fly around the world unrefueled
and is about to fly the first commercial, nongovernment airplane to carry
people into space. Seems he has a knack for doing clever things, aviation-wise.
This quialifies him as a non-stupid in my book.

Put in the intake drain system. If you really want to improve things go with an
oil shutoff out of the tank.
