This is the press release that Richard refers to of the YAK-52M, note
the rate of climb .....a little optamistic I suggest. The turbin version
should be good. I know they did a turbin YAK 18T in the Ukraine,
trouible is the costs along with non certification.

Up to 80 Yak-52 to Be Upgraded over Next 2 Years
Over the next 2 years, it is planned to upgrade 50 - 80 Yak-52 airplanes
into the Yak-52M variant. A preliminary agreement on this account was
reached with the Russian air force, the president of the Yakovlev OKB,
Oleg Demchenko, reported to Interfax-AVN on Friday.
"We will demonstrate the upgraded Yak-52M airplane on the static display
at the MAKS-2003 International Aviation and Space Salon which will take
place in August in the Moscow suburb of Zhukovskiy. The first flight of
this aircraft will be this year," O. Demchenko said.
According to him, the Ivanovsk Aircraft Repair Plant, at which
reequipping of the first experimental Yak-52 into the Yak-52M variant is
taking place, will be fully provided with the necessary design
documentation and equipment for execution of this work.
O. Demchenko notes that the upgrade of the Yak-52 fleet of airplanes
will allow satisfying the needs of the flight schools for a modern
training airplane until the time when series production of Su-49
airplane begins. He reported that it is required to perform the upgrade
in minimum time with minimum expenses - the reequipping of one Yak-52
will cost the customer all of 35,000 - 40,000 dollars.
In accordance with the air force technical task will be installed on the
Yak-52 avionics which allows training cadets for flights in formation
and cross-country, to execute flights in night conditions and in poor
weather conditions. In all it is planned to replace nearly 30 percent of
the avionics.
As a result of the upgrade, the airplane will have improved flying
performance and an increased fuel reserve, owing to which, the ferry
range will be up to 900 kilometers. It is planned to equip the aircraft
with the SKS-94MYa ejection seat with a new canopy and opening system.
The Yak-52M airframe life will be up to 3,000 hours, and the service
life not less than 30 years.
Takeoff weight of the Yak-52M is 1,340 kilograms. Maximum speed: flying
- 360 kilometers per hour, horizontal flight - 290 kilometers per hour;
and maximum climb rate - 14 meters per second.

That is souls-on-board. Why, what did you think it meant? :^)

A Yak goes to Kitty Hawk. Did a write up for EAA which I will forward to the
group if there is interest.

I was joined on the trip by Reade Genzlinger with his Yak. Lots of interest
from the visitors to the museum.

Subject: | maintenance school |
--> Yak-List message posted by: N188rv@aol.com
Last week I had the pleasure of having A. Dennis Savarese as a guest in my
home and hanger to give me his two day maintenance school. I have recently
purchased a yak 52 that had not flown for several years. I have no Yak experience
and no round engine experience, however I have owned aircraft since 1972,
been a A&P since 1976, and have built a couple of airplanes. To tackle this
project without help would have been similar to fishing a new lake without a guide.
You may catch some fish but it will take a lot longer. Dennis is an
excellent guide. His course start with a 2 hour power point presentation and a
notebook to follow along with the presentation. Then we go to the hanger and
spend 6-8 hours on the airplane. The second day is another 6-8 hours on the
airplane. If you are new in the Yak community without a lot of experience, I
highly recommend this course.

Be certain that everyone understands that there is no disrespect for anyone!; but
consider the following: We remove a stone with the 10 commandments from
a Courthouse Alcove; We can not open a school session with a prayer; some people
are attacking our right to require a pledge to our flag; but if I declare
an emergency, I am asked the "number of souls on board". (No matter if it
is a RV or a CJ)--fully American or fully Chineese.
Would it be more politically correct to inquire.........how many bodies with or
without the presence of a everlasting future may occupy the aircraft?
Should the FAA be brought up to the current day standards? Pilots unite! Get the
ACLU on this case post haste!.
Well, anyway; our neighbors to the West got rid of Gray Davis. That shows progress
