How common is common? We human beings, despite our exterior appearances are
very much alike. Our DNA's either Chinese or European work the same way, thus
the synapses of our brain are identical in ops. Also there are only just so
many elements in the structure of the universe, thus there are just so many
ways to produce energy - THAT WE HUMANS KNOW OF RIGHT HOW. The human race has
progressed by standing on the shoulders of our ancestors. From the guy who
thought it easier to make 50 arrows at one time rather than one (idea of mass
production) to the guy who came up with the printing press (dissemination of
knowledge - dare say Internet?). And - AH yes, the idea of the rocket, first
conceived of by the Chinese a long time ago.
Mankind is like a pulsating organ. The rise and fall of each civilization
(this organ's individual parts) along with it's accumulative knowledge, pushes
it's boundaries of truth and knowledge, farther and farther. We can thank the
Greeks for ideas of governance. The Chinese for gun power and rockets. The
Persian's for mathematics, etc., etc..
The CJ-6 is the extension of the knowledge by Da Vinci (noting the airfoil
shape to produce lift), Cayley (idea of fix wings), Lilienthal (importance of
C/G), Stringfellow (the two spar wing construction), Langley (power to weight),
the Wrights (the cumulations of the aforementioned into a workable machine),
Deperdussin (monocoque fuselage construction), Fokker (the cantilever wing),
NACA (the 2300 series airfoils), and Bushi Cheng.
Now this is the "Star Track" in me speaking. Someday all the civilizations
of this planet will be reading off the same page of knowledge and truth, at the
same time. Than watch out!
And that is why, Al ("De Bear" AKA "Dead Bear"), the CJ-6 is not a copy of a
Yak. ;)

He gotcha Pappy. Al is just sitting over there sniggering up his sleeve.
But regardless of whether or not the Chinese capsule is a copy of the Soyuz, building
a rocket, putting a man in a capsule, copied or not, and tossing him around
the world takes a lot of energy and planning. No one in Western Europe has
tried it yet. Heck, it would be a feat even if they just borrowed our spare
parts and put together and launched an Atlas/Mercury. Don't forget Al, they
built their own launch vehicle. So, my hat's off to them. It is nice to see
someone new trying to get into space.
OTOH, what *IS* the required capacity of a launch vehicle to deliver a 10 megaton
warhead in suborbital flight from Asia to North America? As I recall the original
use for the Atlas and the Titan-II/III were to deliver "packages" to our
"friends" in the Soviet Union. We didn't build those vehicles just for the
Mercury and Gemini missions.

Please slap the bottom of the tailcone of your aircraft to check for loose
articles before aerobatics. Even something as small as locking wire can kill
you.
