Barry, and All in the Southern Region of the Schwarzenegger
Squadron:
Hope all are well. I remember watching fire bombers working
a small canyon fire from my perch in the CJ, some 5000ft
overhead and it took them 1-1/2 hours to contain it for the
ground crews. I can't imagine how they cope with something
of this size.
My helmets' off to fire fighters, especially fire bomber
jocks and airborne controllers.

A while back, when I was doing night cargo, there was a forest fire about
300nm away from one of our destination. The smoke made its way directly over the
airport and we had to shoot ILS approaches down to minimum for a whole week
because of it.... weird, with the smell and everything.

Well at that power setting hopefully you wont be flying backwards :)
I would venture about 210 klicks indicated at 3500 ft, but I'm just
guessing, since I never fly under 600 mm/Hg and 2000. That usually
translates into 235 Klicks.

Speaking of fire bombers.....
I was listening to the radio today about the aerial fire fighting.
These guys literally do hang it all on the line. Statistics say that if
you work 20 season as a fire bomber, you have a less than 50% chance of
survival. Not WWII, but not far from it either....
