This is handy chart for a quick MAP conversions. http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/25_462.html ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 04:10:18 AM PST US From: cpayne@joimail.com Subject: Yak-List: Socal Fires --> Yak-List message posted by: cpayne@joimail.com Barry, and All in the Southern Region of the Schwarzenegger Squadron: Hope all are well. I remember watching fire bombers working a small canyon fire from my perch in the CJ, some 5000ft overhead and it took them 1-1/2 hours to contain it for the ground crews. I can't imagine how they cope with something of this size. My helmets' off to fire fighters, especially fire bomber jocks and airborne controllers. The smoke made its way directly over the airport and we had to shoot ILS approaches down to minimum for a whole week because of it.... weird, with the smell and everything. That usually translates into 235 Klicks. I was listening to the radio today about the aerial fire fighting. These guys literally do hang it all on the line. Statistics say that if you work 20 season as a fire bomber, you have a less than 50% chance of survival. Not WWII, but not far from it either....
