Frank,
These are the things that initially come to mind. Did you also
check/clean/replace the fine fuel filter? What was the fuel pressure
reading when the problem occurred? When it occurred did you try pumping the
primer pump just to see if it had any affect? Did you try isolating the
misfiring to one mag or the other and if so, what was the result?

Since we seem to be in a lull, let's go back to FOD. With the blurb in
Sport Aviation on the subject I'm sure many of you 52 drivers have , like me
first annual we found a screw stuck in the elevator pulley. Never really
thought it was a chronic problem but maybe i was wrong. Dennis is working
on a barrier for this (thank you , Dennis) but there may be another answer.
Pulleys are for continuous motion, like a fan belt. Why couldn't the limited
motion of the elevator be controlled with a push rod? C'mon you engineer
types, we're Experimental. Would that mod be too complicated?

Re FOD. I am not familiar with the exact details of the tail cones
involved, but what would be the problem with just a simple, cleanly-cut
hole in the exact bottom of the tail cone skin about two inch square
immediately in front of the jam problem area? That way anything small
would automatically fall out, (screws, etc), and bigger things would
potentially fall out partially. I doubt seriously there would be any
actual structural considerations.

Personally I would rather prevent it from getting to the elevator bellcrank
than relying on a hole in the bottom of the tail cone to possibly allow the
FOD to fall out. The hole wouldn't have worked very well for Alan
Cockrell's vice grip incident.
