--> Yak-List message posted by: "Gus Fraser" <fraseg@comcast.net> Lee, What would be the problem with just checking it as part of the pre-flight ? Cracks can form in the strangest places. By removing a portion of the skin you do affect the structure of the airframe. The skin of the aircraft is a structural component. You might want to consider a clear Perspex panel over the flux gate detector for easy inspection. Gus -----Original Message----- From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Lee Taylor Subject: RE: Yak-List: Re: Yak-List Digest: 2 Msgs - 10/31/03 --> Yak-List message posted by: "Lee Taylor " <leetay1@idcomm.com> Re FOD. I am not familiar with the exact details of the tail cones involved, but what would be the problem with just a simple, cleanly-cut hole in the exact bottom of the tail cone skin about two inch square immediately in front of the jam problem area? That way anything small would automatically fall out, (screws, etc), and bigger things would potentially fall out partially. I doubt seriously there would be any actual structural considerations. --> Yak-List message posted by: "Greg Arnold" <catfsh4u@bellsouth.net> I found a pen that evidently fell out somebody's shirt pocket after banging on the bottom of my fuselage and hearing something. I don't allow pens in the plane so the only thing I can figure is someone in the hangar opened my canopy to have a looksie when nobody was around (It's in a gang hangar). Best reason for getting my own T hangar. I had both seats off this weekend looking under and around everything for stuff. I also crawled behind the second seat with a vacuum and extended as far back as I could. Sucked up tiny stuff hidden from view everywhere. It's amazing what you find. I found a small washer and lots of tiny bits of safety wire. I suppose you could construct a small pexiglass box around the bellcrank without constricting movement. However, I just hate the thought of having anything that close to the bellcrank. More complexity more potential things can go wrong. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with Dennis. Dennis Savarese Subject: Re: Yak-List: Re: Yak-List Digest: 2 Msgs - 10/31/03 --> Yak-List message posted by: "A. Dennis Savarese" <adsavar@gte.net> Personally I would rather prevent it from getting to the elevator bellcrank than relying on a hole in the bottom of the tail cone to possibly allow the FOD to fall out. The hole wouldn't have worked very well for Alan Cockrell's vice grip incident. While restoring my CJ, I found a Chinese hammer in one of the compartments on the bottom of the fuselage. Imaging that banging around during aerobatics. Gene Stansbery N2278

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Rick Basiliere" <discrab@earthlink.net> Byron; I have the Marion filter system on my Yak-55. I love it, it works flawlessly. It keeps the oil clean for nearly 10 hours. I'm thinking about putting one on my Sukhoi this winter. Good luck. From: "Deon Esterhuizen" <desterhuizen@hyphos360.com>
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Deon Esterhuizen" <desterhuizen@hyphos360.com> I depleted both my main and reserve air system to inspect the air tanks. Everything was fine but now when I try to refill the air, the BlowOff Valve (Exhaust Valve) under the pilot seat leaks all the air out at the same speed I put it in - My question is : can this valve be opened and cleaned or must it be replaced? Thanks in advance Deon Esterhuizen N192YK

Looking at the schematic, if the valves are open when you pressurize the system, it's going to dump everything through the valve under the front seat.
